Asap Rocky’s New “Raf” Music Video Is a Throwback to Raf Simons’ Old Archive Collections

Last time Belgian fashion designer Raf Simons’ name was dropped in the music scene was when he collaborated with The XX for their ‘I dare you’ video. This time around, we witness a carefree Asap Rocky asking to “Please, don’t touch my RAF”.

Alongside Quavo, Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert and Frank Ocean, he’s sporting glorious vintage Raf Simons collectibles in a throwback style music video. For this 2m28s artwork, they got inspired by Simons’ fall/winter ’95- ’96 filmed lookbook.

Throwback style

The video starts off with Asap wearing the iconic ‘KOLLAPS’ sleeveless hoodie designed in ’02 while waving with fireworks. That moment right there sets the tone for the entire video. They went on by showing more vintage parkas including the one from the fall/winter 2003 collection, that was sold for $7000. And we definitely recognize that custom pink coat from Raf’s fall 2014 runway show.  If you haven’t seen any of the throwback pieces yet, rewatch the video.

Caught in a sartorial bromance

All the kids around the block can testify that the love between the Belgian designer and rap icon is mutual. Besides, it wouldn’t be the first time Asap gave his favo designer a holler. “Mami in that Tom Ford, Papi in that Thom Browne. Rick Owens, Raf Simons, boy she got it by the stock. She ball until she falls, that means she shop until she drops“, he raps in his hit song titled “Fashion Killa”.
