‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 7 Finale: My Thoughts and Expectations

Game of Thrones‘ season 7 finale aired last Sunday, leaving us shook and full of expectations for the upcoming season. Before you start reading my thoughts on “The Dragon and the Wolf”, know that it’s one big spoiler. So stop in the name of the throne if you’re behind on schedule. When you have seen it all, please continue and feel free to share your ravings.

Jon Snow needs to know who he really is…

Let’s start by stating that everything happens for a reason in Game of Thrones. If Bran Stark hadn’t been pushed through a window by Jaimie Lannister for catching him and Cersei having sex, he would have never been chosen to become the three-eyed raven.

However, at this point, we’re glad that he’s the one breaking the big news about Jon Snow actually being Aegon Targaryen. Worst of all… Jon doesn’t even know it yet. Up till now, he still believes he’s Ned Stark’s bastard son. Yet in reality, Jon Snow is the child of Lyanna Stark (Ned Stark’s sister) and Rhaegar Targaryen (Queen Daenerys’ oldest brother). So this makes Jon the real heir to the Iron Throne.

As a true fan of the series, I’m rooting for Jon Snow to grab what’s his. He has been unaware of his real identity for way too long. It’s about time that he embraces his true self, being the chosen king.

Will Jon marry Khaleesi?

The Game of Thrones writers never backed down from an incestuous love affair. In the final episode of the seventh season, Jon’s feelings for Khaleesi grow stronger every time he looks at her and eventually they end up in bed together. A lot of us saw this coming after their very intense emo scene in the previous episode. Nobody knows about their relationship except for Tyrion Lannister and Jorah Mormont. None of them are (yet) aware of the fact that the two lovebirds are actually related. Even though it will probably become emotionally complicated, thanks for this beautiful love scene. We might have been waiting for this since the very start of the series.

An ideal world would be one in which Jon rules over the Seven Kingdoms with Khaleesi as his wife. Yet, we’ll have to wait until next year to get answers.

Has Cersei Lannister officially lost her mind?

In the season finale, we witness a pregnant Cersei making a major decision out of paranoia. During the epic scene in which the two Queens and the King of the North meet up, she gives her word to fight together against the White Walkers.

Afraid she might lose her child, she’s planning on fully breaking that promise. So she goes over her head by plotting against Queen Daenerys. When the Mother of Dragons will face the army of the dead, that’s when the Lannisters will conquer her land and take the Iron Throne.

On the other hand, her sweet brother and not so secret lover anymore notices how much Cersei has lost her mind and flees their land. We don’t know how that will turn out for him, as Cersei will try to kill him for treason. Although what we do know is that he is 100% right to run away from that crazy woman. Our question is… will he fight alongside his brother to save the Seven Kingdoms from the dead?

Sansa Stark does have what it takes to be the Lady of Winterfell

Those who followed Sansa’s evolution throughout the series know that her life wasn’t a bed of roses after her father died. Yet, before she became the Lady of Winterfell, she never took away someone’s life. In the latest episode, we witnessed her very first order to kill, executed by none other than her little sister Arya. The moment when Sansa gives the silent order to Arya to slid Lord Baelish’s throat proves that Sansa has what it takes to be Lady of Winterfell.

Also, I’m glad the Stark kids are reunited because they’ll need each other to stay alive.

We’re all fucked!

Like in every end-of-season episode, Game of Thrones finishes off with a big bang. You see, the clock is ticking and there isn’t much time until the army of the dead reaches the Wall. At least that’s what we thought until the newly dead dragon destroyed every bit of that wall. Leaving all the houses vulnerable to serious danger. In other words, they’re all fucked. And according to me, Bran Stark should watch out because the Knight King will be coming for him and everybody he loves.

Side note to Cersei: I truly hope you’re the next person who gets killed in season 8. Love, Jonathan.
