Longchamp and Shayne Oliver Appear to Be a Match Made in Heaven

If there’s one thing the countless amount of collabs taught us, it’s this: the more both parties differ from one another, the more interesting it gets. Longchamp, a French luxury leather goods brand with a long history and Shayne Oliver, founder of NY-based cult menswear label Hood By Air, couldn’t be more dissimilar. Yet, this temporary merge is one of the more interesting collections we’ve seen in a while. Shayne Oliver was the perfect designer to introduce Longchamp to an entire new target group.

A breath of fresh air

If there’s one word that pops up in your mind while thinking about Longchamp it must be “iconic”. Everybody knows the brand and its even more famous Le Pliage bag. However, as iconic as the luxury label is, everyone needs a breath of fresh air at some point. An entire generation of youngsters might know Longchamp, but will they ever enter a store? Or will they ever consider buying one of the label’s famous bags? Even though we love Longchamp, we doubt that the answer to these questions is yes.

The good thing is: there’s a lot of potential. Compared to other luxury goods, Longchamp’s nylon collection is pretty affordable and it sure looks good. Also, it’s a love brand which might be the most important factor. It’s just a question of renewal and making sure Gen Y and Z approve of what’s happening. By collaborating with Shayne Oliver, Longchamp hit the nail on the head.

Realness – Hiatus

The forces behind Shayne Oliver’s vision have always been momentum and possibility, movement and progression. For Longchamp this translates into a collection that disrupts the preconceptions of modern day travel. Le Pliage got a makeover and appears in several sizes and colors, always with a different twist: blown-up handles, a hiatus strap, as a clutch. A pair of black pumps, white T-shirt and a black bomber are equipped with the iconic Longchamp handles and closure. There’s an oversized backpack and also a garment bag in the collection. All items carry the words hiatus, referring to the break he took, realness and the Longchamp graphic.

The collection is for sale in select stores and on the Longchamp webshop.
