Edward Enninful has been named as the new Editor In Chief of British Vogue. The former style director at W Magazine is replacing Alexandra Shulman, who is leaving after 25 years. Enninful will start his role at British Vogue in August. He will be the first male to edit British Vogue in over its 100-year long history.
The now New York-based fashion editor is loved by the fashion industry. As a result of that, the messages of good luck and congrats kept coming on social media. Among the people who wished him congrats were Gigi and Bella Hadid, Karlie Kloss and a bunch of other models and fashion enthusiasts.
We already mentioned that he’s going to be the first male editor in chief of British Vogue. But he’s also the first ever black editor of a mainstream British style magazine. Which is something we applaud.
If you don’t know Edward Enninful, yet, you might know some of his work he did for W Magazine. One of those things is the cover they did with Rihanna. For W’s 2016 September issue cover, the pop star did one of her best editorial shoots yet. She was imagined by Edward Enninful, Steven Klein and Se7en screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker (plus, a slew of designers) as Tomorrow, the last woman on earth and the ruling warrior queen in a dark, dystopian future. It’s one of our all time favorite editorial shoots and it was one of Edward Enninful’s brain children. And this is just one of the many incredible things the man has already done. We could go on for ever!
Knowing what he has already done, we are super excited about what he’ll do for Vogue. We guess the British Vogue’s 2017 September issue will be his debut. All eyes on Edward Enninful now.
