What happens when Arne Jacobsen’s 7™ series get a fashionable makeover? A velvet butterfly chair in deep winter shades with matching Dot stool. Fritz Hansen hired Leyla Piedayesh from LaLa Berlin to turn one of its most iconic designs into a trendy, yet timeless must-have. Honestly, if we could only take one chair to a desert island… we wouldn’t have to think twice.
Velvet has been trending for a few seasons now, both in the fashion as the design landscape. But for Leyla Piedayesh it’s more than just a trend or a fabric. It brings back memories from her youth in Iran. Also the color palette is an interpretation of her Iranian background. The mysterious waters of the Caspian sea and nights in Isfahan inspired her for the deep blue lala Caspian color. The burgundy shade from barberries out of the traditional kitchen turned into lala Barberry.
Leyla Piedayesh is the creative mastermind behind Lala Berlin. A German (what’s in a name) fashion label that’s known for its feminine collections with a twist. And there’s always a link to the designer’s roots. This season is all about Persian Punk… What does this look like? Flowered statement dresses, punk elements, heavy knits and the color black. Suzy Menkes once called the brand a phenomenon and we do get her point.
The collection will be available from October ’17 till October ’18 in Republic of Fritz Hansen concept stores and at selected retailers.
