Usually we’re in favor of renting a local’s apartment via Airbnb. But nothing beats being pampered once in a while, definitely when you’re a busy creature. Clean towels, a good bed, clean room and breakfast buffet is all we need. After seeing the Michelberger hotel passing by in our feeds several times… we decided the time had come to check it out ourselves.
The Michelberger is located in the lively area Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, defined by the plenty bars, clubs, restaurants, lunch spots and so on. If you’re a fan of the next best (healthy) thing, this definitely is the hood to be. The only disadvantage of staying at a hotel in a vibrant part of town is the noise but this wasn’t a problem at all. Besides a few loud party people trying to find their room at night, we heard nothing at all. Thank god for the invention of isolation!
If you’re not the biggest fan of walking, you can rent bikes next door and there’s a tram stop in front of the door… always useful.
Look & Feel
When you like clean hotels with a been there, done that touch… we suggest you book a room at the Holiday In. The Michelberger is rather cosy with a modern touch. From the moment you enter, it feels like you’re at home. Not that we want to feel like we’re still at our own places but you know what we mean.
The first thing you see when you enter is a bar surrounded by a cosy area. Great when you want to enjoy a coffee in the early morning or a cocktail at night. It’s almost always open and yes, there’s also food!
Outside the bar there’s a large courtyard with a sauna. Perfect to relax during the cold winter months in Berlin.
That breakfast… we still miss it every second of the day. A delicious variety of healthy, vegan food and the classics, the ideal mix of savory and sweet. You can already imagine we spend quite some hours standing at the buffet. (Yes, we are that kind of people)
Besides that one bartender who had clearly never learned how to make a ginger tea, everyone was very kind, helpful and professional.
We haven’t seen all the rooms but ours, called the loft, was just perfect for 3 persons. The bathroom was kinda tiny but that’s just a negligible detail.
