We now live in an era where musicians can put out songs for the entire world to listen. Without necessarily being signed to a major record label. And we thank the world wide web and social media for it. Some start off unsigned and are discovered online by record labels along the way. Take Skrillex, Adele, Justin Bieber, and Nicki Minaj for instance, all their successful careers started off like this. But one particular artist you have to watch is Kali Uchis. This inspiring 23-year-old singer went from sleeping in her car to being signed to Virgin EMI Records and will soon be touring with Lana Del Rey.

Rising Star Kali Uchis Might Be The Next Big ThingKali Uchis debut

Kali started experimenting with music at a young age. As a teenager, she played the piano and saxophone and later on began experimenting with music production and video editing. You could never really paste a genre on her experimental track. However,  you could hear influences from indie pop, soul to reggae and R&B.
Colombia born Kali Uchis alias Karly Loaiza is one of the most interesting names in the industry right now. That’s because she’s a multi-talented boss lady that sings, writes, produces, and directs most of her own music. Once she drew the attention of Snoop Dogg, Gorillaz and Tyler the Creator after dropping her first mixtape ‘Drunken Babble‘, she made in her room back in 2012, a better world opened up to her and rightly so. Although she never wanted to be in the spotlight, look at her now.

Tyrant feat. Jorja Smith

In June this year, Kali released her video featuring U.K. singer Jorja Smith, titled Tyrant. What’s so enriching about this song is the frequent use of Spanish lyrics and a sudden shout out to French icon Brigitte Bardot. Have a look at the music video.

On tour with Lana Del Rey

A couple of weeks ago Lana Del Rey announced the big news on Instagram. She’ll be touring again! Her upcoming LA To The Moon tour will kick off January 5 and Kali Uchis will be the opening act on select dates in North America. So if you’re planning on going to Lana Del Rey’s concert, pay attention and listen to the opening show with an open heart. Because in a few years she will be running the show.
