First of all: Harry Styles. I know, boybands (and especially One Direction) aren’t really the thing in 2017. But since Harry’s solo career it’s undeniable: that boy has got talent. AND HIS FACE. I could stop right after this. His face only is already enough of a reason to go and check out ‘Dunkirk’.
The Oscar race for Best Picture has finally started! Director Christopher Nolan is a genius. With movies as ‘Inception’ and ‘Interstellar’ on his CV, a great movie was expected. But man, ‘Dunkirk’ truly is a pearl. It’s such a respectful re-telling of history.
We all know how the story goes… I mean, it’s World War II. But this movie brings a side of the story that is rarely shown in other war movies. Christopher Nolan argues that he actually hasn’t made a war movie at all, but a story of survival. ‘Dunkirk’ is a movie that will be shown to kids in school later. Because the story aims for both the heart and the head.
I know I just said that Christopher Nolan is a genius, but so is Hans Zimmer. The music he composed for ‘Dunkirk’ is moving, overwhelming, sometimes even intimidating. The movie doesn’t contain a lot of dialogue, which is normally a pretty quick letdown for me. But the music is so monumentally astonishing that you barely notice the lack in conversation.
Promise me that you won’t download Dunkirk. Your teeny-weeny laptop screen won’t have the same impact. It’s a one-of-a-kind cinematic experience in its intended format: IMAX. Be ready to be blown away by a visual masterpiece.
