6 Tips on How to Practice Self-Care During Quarantine

Don’t worry. This isn’t an article where we preach about having a steady schedule and how you should dress up every day. This article isn’t meant to make you feel bad in any way. We just want to share some tips about how you can survive this scary period.

While our fake lashes, (lip)fillers and acrylics are slowly fading, we’ll give you some tips on how you can come out of the lockdown still looking like a goddess. And now that we still have your attention: please stay home if you can. Don’t go and visit friends. Stop being selfish. Even if your government hasn’t taken the necessary measures (America, we’re looking at you), a little self-quarantine has never hurt nobody. On the contrary, you are saving lives.

1. Keep up your skincare

A few days ago (or is it weeks? What is time even?), I saw a mutual asking on Twitter if she even had to wear her day cream since she isn’t wearing any makeup on top. Even though it’s smart to not wear any makeup these days and let your skin breathe. Of course, you still have to wear a day and night cream. Even if you go to bed at 2 AM and stay in bed until 3 PM, you still have to do your normal skincare routine. Cleansing and moisturizing are still key to a healthy skin, even when it’s not exposed to air pollution, makeup and other damaging goods.

And since you have a lot of time on your hands, you can even expand your routine. Did you know that you should do your face masks at least twice a week? And use three different masks with a different purpose to have a good result? Now it’s the time to dive into your skincare collection and see how you can upgrade your routine.

2. Face massage, anyone?

While you take that extra time, why not give yourself a face massage as well? You don’t need any fancy tools like a jade roller or anything like that, your hands are just fine. If you do have a tool in your collection, good for you. Face massages have a lot of benefits.

First of all, it helps you get the most out of your skincare products. If you spent $70 on that Chanel moisturizer, better get everything out of it, right?  But one of the most important benefits, especially during the coronavirus, is that massaging your face has a relaxing effect. It relieves stress and lifts your mood. Other benefits are the increased blood circulation, preventing signs of aging and can help to release pressure. If you have no idea how to give yourself a face massage, this video might help you out.

Just keep in mind that if you want a long-lasting effect of these massages, you should do this every day, preferably twice a day, for at least five minutes. So maybe you want to keep your new routine, even when our ‘normal’ lives start again.

3. Take care of your hair

While you give your skincare an upgrade, maybe downgrade your hair care? Many studies have proven that washing your hair too much is pretty damaging. Your hair gets greasier faster. Furthermore, people who try not to wash their hair as regular, almost always see a difference in its thickness, shininess and overall health. And what better time to test this out than when nobody sees you. And if you still have to be somewhat presentable during video calls for work or whatnot, you can always pretend you just came out of the shower and wear a towel on your head. Or now it can be your time to experiment with hats, scarves and cute buns.

4. Entertain yourself

Even Kylie Jenner is bored during this lockdown. And I don’t even want to know half of what she can do inside her own house. So, if you don’t know what to do with yourself, we get it. Here are some tips to survive this pandemic. First of all, if your government still allows you to go outside, with the necessary measurements, do it. Take a walk, go for a run or go on a bike ride, enjoy the fresh air while you still can. Of course, respect social distancing.

And now some things you can do inside. Did you know that we share videos you can watch to kill time on a daily basis on our Instagram? So, go check that out, if you didn’t already. Videos we shared thus far are Lady Gaga’s iconic full 16-minute arrival at the 2019 MET Gala and some epic runway moments. But other Instagram accounts are pulling through with some amazing content. Mutuals going live, Miley Cyrus’s daily ‘Bright Minded’ where she invites special guests discussing how to stay LIT in dark times and so much more.

5. Take care

This might also be the time to get into mindfulness, meditation or yoga. This is a very stressful situation for all of us and this is a great way to cope with anxiety. Right now, a lot of people are hindered from going to their psychologist, or therapist, so if you are, maybe this might be a short time solution for you? If you always thought that it’s not for you, you do you. But I started with some guided meditation, and it’s actually very relaxing and it really helps to deal with my anxiety.

Now that we’re all inside all the time, it’s important to get that body moving. Look up some workouts you can do from home. Or maybe you still have that old Wii? Perfect. Just Dance is another great option. Or you can jump on the hype train, if you didn’t already, and learn yourself some TikTok dances. Also, Dua Lipa’s newest album Future Nostalgia is very much dance approved. Working out from home doesn’t have to be boring.

Try not to stay in bed all day, because it will be a lot harder to pick up your old life when all of this is over. And if you can’t take baby steps. Start with a regular eating schedule and get your life organized step by step. It’s okay if it takes a while.

6. Don’t be too hard on yourself

If you can’t bring yourself to be productive these days, forgive yourself. Most of us are mentally exhausted by processing all of this. These times are very stressful for all of us. Loneliness, mental health issues, being in a toxic household, not knowing how you will provide for the future, missing your significant other … these are all very real problems that ask a lot of us. Don’t be hard because you can’t follow that Adobe Photoshop course you finally were going to take. Or if you were to clean your entire house but can’t. It’s okay. Forgive yourself.
