All You Need to Know About Louis Vuitton’s Fiber Optic FW19 Sneakers and Bags

On the 17th of January, Virgil Abloh presented his second menswear collection for Louis Vuitton. A few of the most memorable things we saw on the runway were fiber optic-infused sneakers and bags. The bags were a light show on its own, as well as the sneakers, which even had little touch screens implemented into the tongue.

The idea of working with advanced technology to create an app that can control fiber optic lights inside a sneaker or bags originally came from Louis Vuitton’s marketing team. Abloh immediately loved the idea and wanted to include it in the Fall 2019 runway show. The idea came in October, so what we saw on the runway were just prototypes that still need to be improved. The design will stay the same, but the technology inside will probably improve. This is also the reason why we are not expecting the sneakers and bags to drop very soon.

The fiber optics make the shoes and bag light up. There are fiber optic-infused layers on the sole and on the sides of the sneakers, as well as a touch screen on the tongue that displays different things, like the LV logo and more. On the bag, it’s the monogram print that can light up. With the app, you’ll be able to adjust the colors.

The black ones

Although the sneakers were presented in different colorways, Virgil Abloh only wants to put the black ones on the market. When we asked about the reason behind this, there wasn’t any specific explanation except for “Virgil wanted it that way”.

The bag, that is like a monogram weekender, will be sold for around 15.000 euro. As for the sneakers, there’s no news about the price yet, but we’re sure they will not come cheap.
