What Went Down at Paria Farzaneh’s London Fashion Week Show

Paria Farzaneh debuted her eclectic SS20 collection at London Fashion Week. Whilst sampling more of her iconic Persian-inspired prints, Farzaneh’s show concept featured surveillance-streaming screens, masked models and a floral offering to the audience. Warning: creepy masks approaching…

25-year old Paria Farzaneh returned to the catwalk on Monday, debuting her SS20 collection on the final day of the menswear London Fashion Week. The show took place at a grungy former power station in East London and the show’s concept was fascinating, to say the least.

Heritage and experimentation

We anticipated a continued play on Persian-inspired prints, paying homage to her Iranian heritage. We weren’t disappointed to see exactly that – but also some more experimental color moments and thought (or debate) -provoking themes.

The London-based designer’s printed, relaxed fits have become a recognizable staple in the streetwear scene. A patchwork suit for SS20 works squares of paisley print with soft lilac and gray tones and is disrupted by bursts of loud neon orange. As we’ve seen her stick to more neutral and traditional tones until now, we’re provoked by these fiery accents. The future (and by future, we mean next summer’s wardrobe) looks bright!

You’re on display

Naturally, we wanted to know exactly what the deal was with the eccentric details. Old school television screens lined the runway, showing fuzzy live footage, not of the show but of the audience. Privacy – what’s that? But since we’re talking about the audience of a Fashion Week show, they should be wearing outfits worth streaming. Overly made-up, identical masks covered the faces of the models who all sported wigs. “It’s about who’s underneath” that counts for Farzaneh.

The show closed with models handing out yellow roses to audience members. Yellow roses have been a symbol of peace and love in the Middle East for centuries, so this could again point to a symbol of tradition.
