WATCH: Hedi Slimane Gets inspiration from TikTok for Celine Men Spring 2021 Collection

Weeks after the official virtual Paris Fashion Week, Hedi Slimane showed his Men Spring/Summer collection for Celine. Inspired by eboys and named ‘The Dancing Kid’, the collection is strongly influenced by the recent TikTok culture.

With a custom-made remix of the TikTok anthem “My Name Is Tiago” by Tiagz as the soundtrack, models walked down the circuit du Castellet in France. The collection itself looked like it came straight out of one of those cringy eboy TikTok videos. And as much as we want to hate it, we have to admit that we’re totally obsessed with it.

The Dancing Kid

After photographing 19-year-old TikTok phenomenon Neon Eubanks in 2019, Hedi Slimane started a series called ‘Portrait of a Teen Idol’, which ultimately became a big inspiration for this Spring 2021 collection. The collection was entirely designed in Saint Tropez before March and before the coronavirus took over our lives.

For this collection, Hedi Slimane invited six artists to participate in the making of the collection, in the manner of a group show. Among them are Tyson Reeder, Jesse Harris, Gregory Edwards, Ryan Ford, Amy Sillman, and Turpentine.

At the end of the reveal video, luminous leather jackets, hand-embroidered with “The Dancing Kid”, nod to the ribbons of led lights that decorate teenage bedrooms around the world. It’s also a metaphor for reclaiming the night since going out is off the table.
