Must Visit: The David Hockney Exhibition in Brussels

David Hockney is one of the most important and influential artists in the world and returns for the first time in thirty years to the Bozar in Brussels. Most known for his big contribution in the pop art movement of the sixties, he has inspired many artists with his work and still holds the record of selling the most expensive artwork by a living artist sold at an auction. Unfortunately, ‘Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures)’ isn’t part of the exhibition but there’s so much more to discover about his work.

67 years of work

The first part of the exhibition consists of ‘Works from the Tate Collection, 1954-2017’ and shows the great diversity in his works. Together with his famous double portraits of his parents, his love for vast landscapes, and the swinging sixties in London, the collection forms a beautiful whole.

The second part focusses on his most recent work ‘The Arrival of Spring, Normandy, 2020’ and originated during the first lockdown. Instead of using a canvas and paint, he used his iPad to create an interesting visual story. With the help of a specifically designed app, his new work stands out thanks to beautiful color palette and indicates that the 84-year-old artist still has a huge hunger for experimenting with art.

The David Hockney Exhibition runs until January 23rd in Bozar Brussels.
