Nike and Louis Vuitton Honor Virgil Abloh With Sneakers and an Exhibition

What happens when you mix Louis Vuitton, Nike, and Virgil Abloh? The coolest ‘Air Force 1s’ you have ever seen! Since the death of the creative director of Louis Vuitton and founder of Off-White Virgil Abloh, these sneakers have become priceless. And now, they shine side by side on the streets of New York during an exhibition.

The exhibition will display 47 Air Force 1 designs by Virgil Abloh. These sneakers were a part of his last project before he died in November 2021. He always tried to “make a global community regardless of the elitism or sort of territorial-ness that can happen in subculture”, as he said in an interview with Vogue.

Nine of the 47 Air Forces will be up for sale. The sneakers are a marriage of the aesthetics by Virgil Abloh, the heritage design of Nike, and the iconography of Luis Vuitton. Spoiler alert: they are all limited editions, so don’t get your hopes up.

The auction

Earlier, 200 sneakers from the Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2022 collection were auctioned for the Virgil Abloh Post-Modern Scholarship Fund. This fund gives education to African-American students at 66 American schools. The prices started from 2000 dollars but that was peanuts for the real sneaker fans. The most expensive one was sold for 352.800 dollars?!

From the 20th until the 31st of May, all the 47 editions of ‘Air Force 1’ by Virgil Abloh are on display at the Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse in New York.
