The 10 Best Releases of The Week

The first month of the new year went by in a flash, and we got a lot of great musical moments out of it. In this series, we search for the most exciting new music releases every week. From emerging talent to established names. We don’t look at genres because we prefer music that makes us feel something. So scroll down to see the ten songs we chose that you must hear this week. From the club music of yuné pinku and Jam City to the German rap of Nina Chuba and the French pop of Mia Lena.

1. Nina Chuba — Mangos mit Chili

There have been few—if any—German hits in recent years that have created hype internationally. Enter Nina Chuba. The singer celebrated her big breakthrough in her homeland last summer and could also score outside her country’s borders with her debut album, Glas, thanks to the new “Mangos mit Chili”. Her unique style and super accessible tracks make it an absolute mood setter even for those who don’t master German because her summery beats make you instantly happy. We are already huge fans of hers and maybe after today, you will be too.

2. yuné pinku — Night Light

The nightlife has a new soundtrack thanks to yuné pinku because “Night Light” captures the imagination. Together with co-producer Oli Bayston, the Malaysian-Irish producer and songwriter plays with rhythms and punchy drums, adding some ethereal synths that contribute to a dreamy club atmosphere. In her own words, with “Night Light” she wants to take every listener through a cyberpunk metaverse, where she gets you dancing and makes you forget everything around you. She absolutely succeeds in that aim because—when we close our eyes—we are fully immersed in her world.

3. Rachel Chinouriri — Maybe I’m Lonely

Rachel Chinouriri mainly characterises herself by playing particularly soft melodies with endearing vocals. Even the dreamy “Maybe I’m Lonely”, which already went viral as a demo, stays true to that golden formula and feels like a warm blanket on a rainy winter day. Despite being in the same vocal register throughout the song, she manages to release all her emotions and builds very quietly to a subtle climax. With “Maybe I’m Lonely”, Rachel Chinouriri delivers us a recognisable feeling with a more than beautiful soundtrack.

4. Mya Mehmi — Parivaar (Interlude)

“Parivaar (Interlude)” is the first musical introduction to this fascinating talent from the British scene, as she manages to touch us in particular with her storytelling. “Parivaar” means “family” in Punjabi and is about the unbearable pain associated with the loss of a loved one. In terms of production, the song builds around influences from the ’00s and dreamy R&B, allowing the emotional charge to take hold behind a haze of mystery. Mya Mehmi has intriguing stories to tell while making sure she captivates us on a musical level as well.

5. Caroline Polachek — Blood And Butter

On Valentine’s Day this year, our hearts will beat a little faster even though the ENFNTS TERRIBLES team is single. That’s because Caroline Polachek’s second albumDesire, I Want To Turn Into You, will be released on the day of love. On “Blood And Butter”, the American pop nymph—once again—dominates while keeping us captivated with soaring melodies and divine vocal lines. Caroline Polachek is an undeniable force in the otherwise predictable pop world.

6. NUÏ — Here

Life is full of opposites and contrasts that attract each other. Belgian singer NUÏ uses the contrast between raw, building guitars and warm, dreamy melodies on her new track “Here”. The stanzas soothe us and then bring us to life with each chorus. Vocally, NUÏ also unpacks several times, which only makes this track more imposing. The Belgian singer is here to impress, and everyone is about to realize that with “Here”.

7. Mia Lena — …questions

Brussels-based singer Mia Lena is now celebrating her big comeback as an artist and does so by swapping familiar English for French. “…questions” is her first song in her mother tongue and has something enchanting about it. There is still something mysterious and elusive in her music, but just that edge is what makes her so exciting to us. Mia Lena has taken a great step toward the future with her latest song “…questions”.

8. King Isis — in my way

Our hearts for emerging artists always beat a tad faster, and that is also the case with King Isis. Their debut EP, scales, will be released this spring and has a very fine single with the new “in my way”. The song reminds us a bit of Daine, WILLOW, and MAY-A, but we hear a lot of the American artist’s own identity in this deliciously rough, unpolished track as well. King Isis is still a diamond in the rough, yet their talent already shines bright.

9. Jam City — Redd St. Turbulence

The list of artists Jack Latham aka Jam City has worked with in the past is impressive. From the teen star Olivia Rodrigo to the scheming Kelela or the talented Troye Sivan, they all trust him. The British musician’s own music as a producer is also absolutely worth a listen. “Redd St. Turbulence” is a collaboration with Julian Cashwan Pratt of Show Me The Body and is an absolute banger, where club music, hardcore, techno, and hyperpop complement each other like it’s nothing. If you like the three-minute version, we can only recommend the extended version.

10. Kat Duma — Real Life

Classical influences are evident in the incantatory “Real Life”, as Kat Duma creates an atmosphere with inspiring melodies within a very subtle and endearing production. It even resembles Irish singer Enya in combination with Madonna’s “Frozen”. The emphasis is on creating a haunting atmosphere, where synths and acoustic instruments come together and form the basis for multiple layers of angelic vocals. “Real Life” is a bittersweet, melancholic song that showcases all of the Toronto-based experimental pop artist’s qualities.
