Ghent, Buckle Up For Fashion Revolution 2023

During Fashion Revolution Week, the world’s largest fashion activism movement unites for seven days of action. This year’s campaign, from April 22 to 29, coincides with the tenth anniversary of the tragic Rana Plaza factory collapse.

Remembering a tragedy

The Rana Plaza disaster occurred in Savar, Bangladesh, on April 24, 2013. A run-down building that housed several garment factories collapsed. As a result, over 1.100 people lost their lives, and more than 2.500 people were injured.

Thanks to initiatives by the International Accord on Fire and Building Safety, over 2 million people now have safer workplaces. Although this might seem like a big leap in the right direction, we still have a long way to go. For that exact reason, Fashion Revolution continues to advocate. We (for the most part, unknowing consumers) have to do our part in making the conditions of the people that make our beloved fashions more fair.

“Good Clothes, Fair Pay”

With the aim to not only learn but also take action, the “Good Clothes, Fair Pay” campaign is a crucial reminder that the clothes we wear have a story beyond what we see on the surface. Workers in some countries are subjected to extremely unsafe working conditions, low wages, and inhumanly long hours.

3 Days of Festivities

Do you have some clothes lying around that you don’t wear anymore? Well, upcycling is a fun and easy way to give new life to your old clothes that might otherwise go to waste while reducing your carbon footprint. Experienced young creatives will be on hand to guide you through the process during workshops happening on May 9 and 18. You’ll leave with a sense of accomplishment and a new look that’s all your own.

The main event will be held on Saturday, May 13. Accompanied by a DJ set and drinks, Fashion Revolution invites Adèle Sweetlove. An artist currently studying fine arts at LUCA who experiments with various media and materials to create stunning pieces that challenge our perspective on sustainability.

But that’s not all. It will also include an area to shop second-hand items as well as pop-ups by talented young designers showing their innovative work. You’ll for sure find some inspiration and unique pieces to add to your wardrobe.

So mark your calendars for May 9 until 13 because the faces behind Fashion Revolution (Priscilla Nollé, Emma Sweetlove, and Claudia Castanheira) hope to see you there! For more information, visit Fashion Revolution’s website
