Remembering a tragedy
The Rana Plaza disaster occurred in Savar, Bangladesh, on April 24, 2013. A run-down building that housed several garment factories collapsed. As a result, over 1.100 people lost their lives, and more than 2.500 people were injured.
Thanks to initiatives by the International Accord on Fire and Building Safety, over 2 million people now have safer workplaces. Although this might seem like a big leap in the right direction, we still have a long way to go. For that exact reason, Fashion Revolution continues to advocate. We (for the most part, unknowing consumers) have to do our part in making the conditions of the people that make our beloved fashions more fair.
“Good Clothes, Fair Pay”
With the aim to not only learn but also take action, the “Good Clothes, Fair Pay” campaign is a crucial reminder that the clothes we wear have a story beyond what we see on the surface. Workers in some countries are subjected to extremely unsafe working conditions, low wages, and inhumanly long hours.
