The idea of working with advanced technology to create an app that can control fiber optic lights inside a sneaker or bags originally came from Louis Vuitton’s marketing team. Abloh immediately loved the idea and wanted to include it in the Fall 2019 runway show. The idea came in October, so what we saw on the runway were just prototypes that still need to be improved. The design will stay the same, but the technology inside will probably improve. This is also the reason why we are not expecting the sneakers and bags to drop very soon.
The fiber optics make the shoes and bag light up. There are fiber optic-infused layers on the sole and on the sides of the sneakers, as well as a touch screen on the tongue that displays different things, like the LV logo and more. On the bag, it’s the monogram print that can light up. With the app, you’ll be able to adjust the colors.
