Blokette: the Newest Aesthetic Explained

On those days when you can’t decide whether to dress more feminine or masculine, you can always opt for the blokette (or bloquette) aesthetic. We can hear you thinking, “Another new style?” This combination of the coquette and Bloke Core aesthetic is what is making its rounds on TikTok. If all those words sound foreign to you, don’t worry, we’ll break them down.

“Blokette” is a style where you combine hyper-feminine pieces such as ribbons and miniskirts with typical masculine items like football shirts. The contrast is what makes the style work (or doesn’t). According to some, it looks like a cumulation of “the clothes left on washing day”. It’s all about finding the right balance, like lacing your Adidas sneakers with ribbons instead of laces.

Ballet and soccer

The aesthetic has gained popularity on TikTok where the mother styles rose to prominence. Coquette is a romantic and dainty style that takes a lot of inspiration from ballet. Think pastel pink, lace, pearls, leg warmers, etc. Bloke Core derives its looks from British soccer fans, often modeling sports jerseys and Adidas shoes or tracksuits.
