Brussels Collective Psst Mlle Raises Funds With EASTPAK For Pride

In May, we celebrate Pride Month. This year, Brussels-based creatives Psst Mlle collaborates with EASTPAK on two exclusive bum bags. With these bags, they try to raise funds for Le Refuge, a non-profit that helps young queers in Brussels struggling with housing, basic needs, and a structure to support them. “When you have a platform like EASTPAK, Ancienne Belgique, or Psst Mlle, it’s important to help and elevate others and give them a voice,” says Shaïne from the Brussels-based collective Psst Mlle. “Especially during Pride month.”

When collaborating with EASTPAK, Shaïne knew instantly what bag she wanted to make, “I chose a bum bag because I used to wear them a lot when I was younger.” The bum bags have the statement “Protect the Protest,” or “Protect Trans Lives,” embroidered on them. “The messages are intense but very important when you see what’s happening in France and other places.” All the profits from the bags will go to Le Refuge. “I’m happy I can do this for my community,” Shaïne says proudly.

Presenting myself

Marginalized fem queers are at the forefront of this campaign. It’s a group that’s continuously praised in the media but faces harassment on the streets. Shaïne, a fearless young trans woman herself, is also the face of the campaign. “I’m not used to being in front of the camera, and this was the first time doing this after my transition,” she says. “It really helped me to see myself in another way and to be proud of who I am.”

Time To Party

To support this campaign, Psst Mlle is organizing the festival Outrageous at Ancienne Belgique on May 19. The curated lineup comprises all queer FINTA (Female, Intersex, Non-binary, Transgender, Agender) artists. “This wouldn’t have happened five years ago,” says Shaïne. Besides a talented and versatile lineup, we can expect a colorful and aesthetic show that’s “on another level”. “The scenography will be different from what you’re used to at the AB,” Shaïne adds.

The bum bag will be exclusively sold during the month of May at Ancienne Belgique, and all the benefits will go directly to Le Refuge. Those in the mood for a party can still get a ticket for Outrageous, held on Friday, May 19, at Ancienne Belgique.
