Christian Wijnants SS20: A Colorful Escape

Escapism has become a common theme throughout Christian Wijnants’ collections. For Spring/Summer 2020, the Belgian designer makes us cross imaginary borders with a colorful interplay of billowing shapes and tactile prints.

A dialogue between continents

Always standing out in Christian Wijnants’ collections are the color palettes. This season is no different. He impeccably combined bright and forward shades into a beautiful eclectic, yet minimalistic series of silhouettes. Electric and pale blues, tangerine, papaya, soft pink, coral, emerald, pistachio, cream and white flawlessly form a collection we look forward to wear next summer. One of the sources of inspiration was the work of African-American painter Henry Taylor, known for exploring the dialogue between continents.

Graphic elements in the collection are kept simple with stripes and zigzag prints. One exception is the bubble wrap print that was painted by hand and stamped on paper.

The collection is full of bold shapes with feminine elements such as ruffles and tailoring. Christian Wijnants proves that it doesn’t need to be one thing or another. Class, style and comfort do go hand in hand.
