Backstage with Antwerp Fashion Master: Di Du

Our in-house photographer Robin Joris Dullers followed five fashion masters backstage at the annual show of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp Fashion Department. Amongst them, Di Du, a master graduate of the Antwerp Fashion Academy. She showed her final collection called ‘Sip my ocean’. Have a closer look.

The collection: ‘Sip my ocean’ by Di Du

Out of the 13 master graduates, we’ve been following Di Du for a while now. We’ve already worked with the promising designer for a previous editorial. And since we believe in her talent, it was only natural to follow Di Du backstage at SHOW2019.

The 28-year-old Chinese fashion designer draws her inspiration from contemporary art and female artists. For her master collection, Di Du got influenced by the works of Anna Uddenberg, an artist that started as a performance artist and explored the limits of sexuality. In contrary to last year’s dark mood, this year the result was different and brighter. She focused on feminine empowerment by adding more pastel hues, feathers, more kitsch, stripper platforms, lingerie and clear clues of sportswear in every silhouette.

Want to see more master students and their creations? We also followed Linus Leonardsson, Quinten Mestdagh, Shuting Qiu and Victor Wang. Click on their names to see our backstage coverage of their collections.
