For the 2023 edition—taking place on August 5, 6, 12, and 13 in Zeebrugge—WECANDANCE has chosen to organize a festive ode to the underwater world and all things shore with this year’s theme: Sea, Sand & Sun!

Somehow, it took WECANDANCE ten years to come up with the most obvious theme yet. If there’s anything that characterizes the beach festival, it’s the North Sea, a lot of sand, and a gorgeous sunset to top it all off. For this tenth anniversary year, the festival is asking visitors to dress to impress for the occasion.
The first thing we thought of when hearing the theme, is Lady Gaga’s 2014 arrival in Athens (if you’re not gay, watch this video to get the reference). If you don’t want to embody a modern-day Venus with sea shells as a bra, like Gaga, here are some other references that might give you some ideas. Think mermaid core by mixing a sea of shades, sand-color ivory, soft aquamarine, and eye-watering fuchsia pinks. But also sheer silhouettes, pearls, mesh, wet hair looks, beach waves, anything beige, and more will be some of the go-to looks. For more inspo, check out the dedicated Pinterest page.
Remember that the festival’s yearly theme serves as an inspiration, rather than a dress code. WECANDANCE wants visitors to come as they are.
