When we first laid eyes on Hed Mayner’s collection, without knowing anything about the designer himself, his creations gave us Japanese vibes. It was when we started to investigate his background and story, that we got the bigger picture.
Paris meets Tel Aviv
Hed Mayner was born in Amuka, in the north of Israel. He studied at the Bezalel School of Fine Arts in Jerusalem, before moving to Paris where continued his studies at the French Institute of Fashion. An influence of both cultures undeniably reflects in his collections.
Those who have ever been to Israel know that it’s a country with many facets. It’s a melting pot of different cultures, each with its own habits and traditions. When wandering the streets of Jerusalem you’ll see a lot of religious influences in clothing. In Tel Aviv, on the contrary, people are all dressed very casually.
Then there’s the Parisian imprint, the fashion capital of the world, the cradle of haute couture and prêt-à-porter. We guess no further explanation is needed.
