Hed Mayner SS21: an Interesting Fusion of Nomad and Tailoring

Hed Mayner SS21 is a collection to keep an eye on this season. The Israeli-born designer won the Karl Lagerfeld prize at the LVMH prize in 2019. He surprised us with an interesting mix of tailoring and a laid-back style Israeli’s are known for.

When we first laid eyes on Hed Mayner’s collection, without knowing anything about the designer himself, his creations gave us Japanese vibes. It was when we started to investigate his background and story, that we got the bigger picture.

Paris meets Tel Aviv

Hed Mayner was born in Amuka, in the north of Israel. He studied at the Bezalel School of Fine Arts in Jerusalem, before moving to Paris where continued his studies at the French Institute of Fashion. An influence of both cultures undeniably reflects in his collections.

Those who have ever been to Israel know that it’s a country with many facets. It’s a melting pot of different cultures, each with its own habits and traditions. When wandering the streets of Jerusalem you’ll see a lot of religious influences in clothing. In Tel Aviv, on the contrary, people are all dressed very casually.

Then there’s the Parisian imprint, the fashion capital of the world, the cradle of haute couture and prêt-à-porter. We guess no further explanation is needed.

Nomad Tailoring

Hed Mayner’s SS21 collection is a fusion between nomad and tailoring. You could easily wear the looks for a stay at a kibbutz, pack them for a trip to Paris Fashion Week, or a round trip in Japan. There are the traditional menswear elements such as blazers, jeans, and pleated trousers brought in a new shape. Linnen fabrics and earth tones make the whole give us Israeli desert feels. To make a long story short: it’s a multifunctional summer collection that will take you places.
