Matthew Williams, Alyx and Nike Collab for Second Capsule Collection

Matthew Williams, founder of fashion brand ALYX, has announced there’s another collaborative capsule collection on its way with Nike. After his first collection, where he explored the ways data inform new manufacturing methods, he now designed a new collection. In this capsule, he focuses on how data reveal things that are normally unseen. Above all, he wants to serve athletes in every perspective.

Williams, a part of Kanye Wests team and used-to-be art director of Wests creative agency Donda, has finally opened up about a new collaborative collection with Nike. The designer, obsessed with subcultures, continues to dalliance with data. Nike gives him many opportunities to use new design tools. He now embodies his belief that the intersection of human imagination and technology points to an exciting future.


Now, he tries to focus on what is normally unseen. “For this collection, we used computational algorithms to create the camouflage pattern,” he explains. Camouflage print is what comes back in his second collection with Nike, as Williams sees it as season-less and always relevant. For instance, the pattern is appropriate to one of the functional purposes of his products. Equipping athletes for what Williams describes as “really hardcore outdoor training”.

Multifunctional use

The collection has a mix of sherpa fleece, two-in-one pants, utility vests and detachable hoods. This to make sure every item of the collection is about multifuntional use. “When you are running, you get wet mainly the top of your shoulders. So we ensured rain coverage in that spot.” Williams not only provided sports garment, he added a touch of humanity in the accessories range. Cause all of them athletes need socks and underwear, you know?

The Nike x Matthew M. Williams collection will be available globally beginning February 7.
