Méson Opens the Doors of Dour Festival for Peet, Tsar B and Judith Kiddo

The DOUR Festival will host thousands of music lovers for five days (July 12-16) to have the time of their life. With a lineup filled with electronic music, hiphop, and rock, every music lover is set to have an amazing time exploring emerging and established acts. To celebrate the new edition, the Brussels-based upcycling brand méson asked three artists from the lineup to join them at the festival site—where the installation is in full swing—to present the pieces of their new capsule collection.

We chatted with rapper Peet, the angelic Tsar B, and the intriguing Judith Kiddo to talk about DOUR, festivals, and the perfect festival outfit.

Peet

The festival summer is starting very soon. What’s your favorite thing about festivals?

It’s that summer vibe that we all wait for all year.

You released your new album Todo Bien in February. Is there something you haven’t told anyone about the album yet that you’d like to share with us?

I recorded all the tracks sitting in my chair in my garage.

What makes this album so special for you as the creator?

I don’t want to say that it’s more special than another album. I think I always put the same energy into all of my projects.

You’re performing at DOUR this year. What can we expect from your set?

I am coming with all my musicians, so it’s different from the studio version!

How would you summarize DOUR in a couple of words?

Lots of love!!

What do you like about DOUR? What makes it unique to you?

It’s a festival that tries to put some small names on big stages, and that’s a good opportunity for small artists to show their talent.

Is there an artist on the lineup this year that we should definitely check out?

Denzel Curry.

If you could book one artist that isn’t on the lineup this year, which act would you book?

Morad.

What’s your favorite memory of DOUR so far?

The first time we played with “le 77”.

What’s your definition of a good festival look? What do you like to wear when you go to festivals?

Looking comfortable is the most important thing for me.

Peet will be performing at the Last Arena on Sunday at 16:15, July 16.

Tsar B

The festival summer is starting very soon. What’s your favorite thing about festivals?

The smell of the sun on the grass—not the other smells.

You released your new album to the stars in March. Is there something you haven’t told anyone about the album yet that you’d like to share with us?

All the songs together might have five different boys as subjects …

The album creates a bridge between different energies, from raves to very melancholic songs. What’s your favorite song on the album to perform?

“don’t wanna lose nobody”! We’re a live band of 3 multi-instrumentalists using all of our fingers and tongues to come to a gabber, rave sound.

You’re performing at DOUR this year. What can we expect from your set?

Very high highs and very low lows (as in very dramatic intimate intermezzos).

How would you summarize DOUR in a couple of words?

Hot. Hot people. Hot vibrance.

What do you like about DOUR? What makes it unique to you?

Hotness!

Is there an artist on the lineup this year that we should definitely check out?

Aphex Twin! I’m going to cry when I see him.

If you could book one artist that isn’t on the lineup this year, which act would you book?

Shygirl, Eartheater, Björk …

What’s your favorite memory of DOUR so far?

Last time, I jumped off the stage into the crowd, and then I suddenly felt sick of the hotness/heat. I ran back to the stage—thinking I was going to vomit—which I didn’t, so the day couldn’t have gone better.

What’s your definition of a good festival look? What do you like to wear when you go to festivals?

A bit of flesh needs to be visible (or a lot).

Tsar B will be performing at Le Labo on Thursday at 19:15, 13 July.

Judith Kiddo

The festival summer is starting very soon. What’s your favorite thing about festivals?

Discoveries. It’s not always easy to come upon new music I really like. Festivals are the best because you get condensed possibilities of discovery. And for me, there is no better way of discovering a project than live.

You released your debut album READY TO HEAL in March. How was it for you to release your first body of work?

It was gratifying and a bit crazy. I released it pretty much on my own. I’m blessed with a great band, producer, and PR. But with no label or big team behind me, there’s still a lot of uncreative stuff you have to take care of, which I discovered on the spot (oops). Bumpy times in my personal life too. But I did it, and I’m proud. This album is like my first child or something. The release in AB Club was beautiful, and as a band, we’re definitely freer and even more excited today. Ready to set DOUR on fire!

Storytelling is an important part of your music. How will you try to translate these stories into your live show ?

When on stage, I love to embody the different facettes of my songs as much as possible. It goes through my body—I move quite a lot. I think I have a rather theatrical presence, since I’m also an actress. And my band is so solid; I’m extremely grateful for them. We’ve now come to a point where we’re really sharing these stories. And we have a lot of fun with it.

You’re performing at DOUR this year. What can we expect from your set?

A fun, luminous show under a hot white tent! On Ready to Heal, I went further in introspection, and some songs are moving too. Well, I hope so. I invited Shoko Igarashi on saxophone, a regular guest and incredible jazz musician. There are good vocal melodies, lots of guitars and synths (Clément Marion), catchy drums (César Laloux), and a great new bassist (Caitlin Talburt). It’s a little psychedelic, so expect a gentle mushroom effect by the end of the set.

How would you summarize DOUR in a couple of words?

Douuuureeeeeh! I had no idea she sounded so great! Shit, where are my keys. Wow, let me add this band to my Spotify! Meet me at the tent in five, baby. Ouch, my head! Hm, let’s heal it with another beer.

What do you like about DOUR? What makes it unique to you?

The lineup. It’s in the age of time but full of surprises, open to any genre, lot’s of powerful energies. It’s Belgium’s biggest music party!

Is there an artist on the lineup this year that we should definitely check out?

Sophie Royer or Pongo, but there is so much choice really.

If you could book one artist that isn’t on the lineup this year, which act would you book?

Kara Jackson, or my girlfriend’s band, Belle Initiative.

It’s your first time performing at DOUR with your project. What do you expect from your show?

I want to enjoy every second of it: rock the stage and leave it without any sort of frustration. I can be hard on myself regarding performances, but it’s getting better, so not this time. Oh, and a million new fans, of course!

What’s your definition of a good festival look? What do you like to wear when you go to festivals?

Something hot you can roll in the mud with.

Judith Kiddo will be performing at La Petite Maison dans la Prairie on Sunday at 14:30, July 16.
