Nike and AMBUSH Define the Influence of Sport in New Capsule Collection

Japanese/French brand AMBUSH and Nike just announced a new collaborative collection, which will drop December 6. Nike gave jewelry designer Yoon Ahn the freedom to express being in constant motion into a female sports collection. She made a collection in which you can live a busy lifestyle, without feeling uncomfortable or dysfunctional. First off, let’s hope further collections also include a new look for the Nike Air Max 180.

Although AMBUSH was founded in 2008, and made its debut in Paris in 2015, the brand has partnered with many influential names in the fashion industry. Think of A Bathing Ape, Maison Kitsune and UNDERCOVER, and fans such as Kanye West, Pharrell Williams and Big Sean that have been spotted wearing the jewelry label. In 2016, AMBUSH showed its first ready-to-wear Tokyo aesthetic collection. It took some time, but Nike finally announced a collaboration with the beloved brand. After the past big collabs with incredibly good pieces, we are super excited for this one.

When night meets day

With this collection Yoon wants to refine her craft, of which she considers sport to be an essential influence. “It’s about a certain mentality – the commitment to be best at what you are doing,” she explains. For Yoon it’s important this collection fits the standards of modern life. “Before, how you dressed in the morning wasn’t carried into nighttime. Now we move through space and time more fluidly.” Keeping this in mind, the Nike x AMBUSH capsule collection involves a reversible track jacket and a luxurious faux fur jacket. Next to the coats, there is a DRI-Fit stretch bodysuit, crop top and fleece pant.

Nike Air Max 180: The AMBUSH view

Nike gave Yoon the chance to make her own version of an Air Max model, in which she immediately knew what she wanted to do. “The Air Max 180 is the first pair of sneakers I ever bought with my own money. I wanted it so badly, having seen it in the pages of a magazine,” she explains. She changed the 180 into a futuristic model, combined with the glove of an Air Zoom Flight. The Nike x AMBUSH Air Max 180 comes in a black and a white model, with a little blue in the air bubble and a zip on top to close the Glove. For the shoes though, we will have to wait until spring 2019.
