On Our Radar: Brooklyn’s BAYLI Is Ready to Tell More Stories on Her New EP

BAYLI has already worked with big names like SOPHIE, BABYNYMPH and Gia Woods, but is catching our attention more than ever with her upcoming EP ‘STORIES 2’. In it, the Brooklyn-based singer delves even deeper into her life story, which will no doubt inspire a lot of other young creatives. Enough reasons to introduce them to you in our beloved series ‘On Our Radar‘ in which we introduce emerging talent to you.

Your Spotify bio says: “i love writing music and sushi.” What more would you like to add to introduce yourself to us?

Haha I guess that…i’m just a shy and mysterious girl from Brooklyn, NY. Other than that you’ll have to listen to my music to understand me better.

Who or what has shaped you into the artist you are now?

Growing up in New York City was, and still is, a major thing that shaped me. Another thing is being born into a very cool family. My parents are like the original NYC hipsters.

You often collaborate with different artists. What’s the key to a good collaboration for you?

I collaborate with other artists quite often but not every collab always comes out. The key to a good collaboration is really respecting your collaborations unique talent and perspective and them respecting yours. You don’t want to try and micromanage an artist or a work of art so trusting each other is the major key.

The new EP is the follow-up to stories from new york. Why did you want to make a second volume?

My second project STORIES 2 continues where stories from new york left off. This is a project that I wrote in various cities and so it takes you on a sonic journey that is not only confined to New York but now in new territories outside of my hometown.

How influential was Brooklyn for your music?

Brooklyn is the coolest place in the world imo. It inspires me to be fearless and to come with a message. Mostly it reminds me that nothing matters more, in artistry, than authenticity.

You love to infuse different genres into your music. If you could come up with a genre that covers your music, what would you name it?

Ahhhh! Naming my sound has been something I’ve been trying to crack the code on for so long. I guess I would call my sound expansive pop or journeytech.

Did touring and performing have an impact on how you approached music?

Yes, of course. Playing new music with fans on tour is the best test to see what people want to hear. Seeing how the crowd reacts to each song really helps me understand where my strengths lie with my sound, which is still evolving.

What would you like to achieve with your new EP?

When people listen to this project I want it to take them to another place. I’d like my listeners to feel like there transcending from wherever they are in into my world. This project is really an exploration on human connection, especially coming out of a lot of isolation from the recent covid lockdown, so I hope that these stories are relatable and can connect me more to my fans.

As the year is coming to an end, what are you planning in these last months of 2022?

Well, I will be on a North American tour this fall playing cities across the country, from San Francisco to Montreal to New York. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to tour so I’m really excited to get on the road and hopefully play some festivals in the coming months. Other than that, I’ll be back to work in the studio working on new music for, hopefully, a longer form project – maybe even an album.
