On Our Radar: Eighteen-Year-Old Sensation Riovaz Taking the World by Storm With His Debut EP ‘Disturb The Norm’

If you were to ask the average 18-year-old what their dreams or ambitions are, they will probably still answer somewhat desperately or searchingly. However, that does not apply to emerging artist Riovaz, who, as a fledgling adult, immediately shows that he can be the future of music. He now has over 200 million streams on Spotify thanks to his viral hit “Prom Night” and belongs to the new generation of artists that also includes the likes of Ice Spice and PinkPantheress. In any case, the latter is already a big fan of this young talent and already invited him to London. We are therefore only too happy to introduce him and his new EP ‘Disturb The Norm’ in our ‘On Our Radar‘ series.

Who is Riovaz? What keeps you awake at night?

Riovaz is Riovaz, there’s nothing more to be said than that. The only thing keeping me up at night is Riorave.

You started as a young teenager with music. How has your sound evolved throughout the years?

My sound evolves with my ever changing music tastes as I grow up. It just moves in stages that somehow work out every time I try a new sound out.

You’re still only 18. Do you feel that people underestimate you because of your age?

Yeah I’m 18 and nah I don’t think people underestimate me at all, actually if anything they expect A LOT from me.

You mix house, hyperpop and hip-hop. Why are you so attracted by these genres?

House and Hip Hop is what I grew up on, especially Rap music. Rap music played a big part in my early artist development and was essentially the foundation for everything.

Your debut single “Prom Night” became a viral hit. Did that add any pressure or are you excited that people vibed with your music right from the start?

It did add a lot of pressure because I was still a junior in highschool when this was blowing up, so like everyone was calling me a one hit wonder for no reason so I felt like I really needed to prove myself and that’s what I did.

You released your debut EP Disturb The Norm. What do we need to know about the project?

This EP will change everything. Expect the unexpected.

What are the key elements of this project in your opinion?

The key element is change. Change is unavoidable and happens in life and that’s what’s happening with my sound, so you’ll hear the gradual change when you listen to this front to back.

You recently visited PinkPantheress in London. Can we expect a collaboration between you soon?

Hmmmmm my answer is….yes.

What other artists are you currently looking up to?

Right now I’ve been listening to alot of Merchant Ships, so probably them.

2023 promises to be a good year for you. What are your personal goals for this year?

My personal goals for this year is to find stability and come back into reality.

What can we expect from you besides the EP in the near future?

You can expect more visuals and more songs to add into your “i survived riorave” playlist
