Our 8 Must-Sees At This Year’s Fifty Lab Music Festival in Brussels

Gabriels, ELOI, Pongo, Lander & Adriaan, MEYY, Iliona … The list of artists who introduced themselves to an international audience at the Brussels’ Fifty Lab Music Festival and then moved on to the big stages is long, proving that you can discover the future of music in the heart of the Belgian capital. This year, the festival returns from Wednesday, 15 November until Friday, 17 November, with more than 60 artists spread across eight stages, each one worth discovering. To help you find your way around the lineup, we selected eight artists you cannot afford to miss.

1. Cyra Gwynth

Belgian-Filipino singer Cyra Gwynth has been around for a while now and is winning over more and more people with her R&B. She recently released her new single “Speed Up”, which puts her on another level and shows that she has international allure. At Fifty Lab she will give one of her first shows in a a while and will undoubtedly get everyone moving with her incredible energy and charisma. You will find us in the front row.

Cyra Gwynth will perform at BeursBourse on Thursday, 16 November.

2. zonmai

Brussels singer zonmai is playing a real home match at the festival and has a lot to show off. Her new EP, including the single “MMM BROKEN HEART”, will be released in a few weeks and is her next big step as an artist. Her hyper-pop with French lyrics is unique and incomparable thanks to the obvious influences from hip-hop and digicore. In the summer, she already charmed us during her show at CORE, showing that she is also an incredibly interesting act on stage who can do great things beyond this country’s borders. Definitely someone to keep an eye on.

zonmai will perform at Café Delune on Friday, 17 November.

3. Porcelain id

Rarely have we been so moved and overwhelmed by a show as we were at Porcelain id’s. The Belgian artist is currently putting the finishing touches on their debut album (coming in spring 2024) and already has strong singles with “Rhythm Machine” and “Man Down!”. Their show at Fifty Lab promises to be an intimate and captivating concert, as the Antwerp artist will be accompanied by a band for the first time. The stories told by Porcelain id are engaging and personal, keeping you glued to their music.

Porcelain id will perform at the AB on Thursday, 16 November.

4. Marguerite Thiam

In the artistic scene of Paris, Marguerite Thiam has been a household name for many years because she has often revealed herself as a storyteller pur sang through her work as an actress and director. She now aspires the same with her music, for which she collaborates with Twinsmatic (Christine and the Queens and Damso), which pays off beautifully in “PLUS RIEN N’EST GRAVE” and “COMME LES GRANDS”. Musically, she sits somewhere between a French chanson, alternative pop, shreds of rock, and electronic influences, which many believe makes her the next superstar.

Marguerite Thiam will perform at the AB Club on Thursday, 16 November.

5. Mariposa

Thanks to superstars like Rosalía and Bad Bunny, Spanish music is increasingly present and relevant thanks, in part, to their refreshing productions. And maybe Mariposa will soon be added to that list because, with her eclectic music and eye-catching outfits, she has developed herself into an artist with tremendous potential and a great future in sight. Her new EP, Otro Mondo, bursts with cool songs that make us very curious about her first show in Belgium.

Mariposa will perform at the Silver Space in Beursschouwburg on Wednesday, 15 November.

6. Nino SLG

Combining two extremes and making something new with it is what this seventeen-year-old is all about—yes you read that right! Nino SLG from London is not only a talented rapper but also plays the piano like a child prodigy. Bringing both worlds together, he is already elevating his music to something otherworldly, and it is only a matter of time before everyone is talking about this young artist. This downright innovative hip-hop act will captivate even those who aren’t all that into hip-hop, and we look forward to seeing this top talent at work before his ultimate breakthrough.

Nino SLG will perform at the Golden Space in Beursschouwburg on Friday, 17 November.

7. Debby Friday

Debby Friday, the brand-new winner of the prestigious Polaris Music Prize, is coming to Brussels for a second time this year, bringing with her her widely acclaimed debut album, GOOD LUCK. Many see her as a modern, female version of David Bowie due to her sense of groundbreaking performances and intriguing alternative pop music. Nervously brilliant and, above all, an irreversibly relevant artist who you absolutely must see live.

Debby Friday will perform at the BeursBourse on Wednesday, 15 November.

8. piffy

As a member of SWEATS, piffy has shown us many times that she can get any dance floor dancing, but she also succeeds with great ease in her solo project. Even though the Antwerp singer does not yet have an official release to her name, she has already made real statements with her shows. Musically, she sometimes reminds us of Madonna’s glory years with an extra sauce of bass and eclectic effects, as well as Oklou and Shygirl.

Piffy will perform at Bonnefooi on Thursday, 16 November.
