Our Favorites From Antwerp Royal Academy Ma 2025: Annaëlle Reudink

On the 6th-7th of June, The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp hit the stage with its annual runway show, once again reclaiming Antwerp’s status as avant-garde fashion capital. We are honored to present one of our favorites, Annaëlle Reudink, Belgian designer, 2025 MA Fashion Department graduate, and her collection Too many mes, not enough hangers / Professionally undecided (working title) or who am I wearing?

Fictional autobiographies of Annaëlle Reudink

The ultimate question, haunting all master graduates (the one Annaëlle hates), “What’s your plan for the future?” inspired Reudink to bring all her dream versions of herself to life. “I was intrigued by artist Rinus Van de Velde, who paints himself in all kinds of made-up situations. He explained it as fictional autobiographies, so that is the idea I based this collection on.

“Since I was little, I’ve carried a hundred dreams in my head. People told me they’d fade with time, and eventually, things would make sense. But they didn’t fade. If anything, they’ve grown louder and wilder… I’ve always imagined myself in very different professions. I wanted to be a lawyer, I wanted to be a farmer, I wanted to be a fashion designer, and it is not possible to accomplish everything in one lifetime. Every silhouette is another me. It is about transforming myself in different realities and thinking about it without actually having to become it.”

Embellishments, embellishments, embellishments!

The collection astounds with the amount of embellishments, most made by Reudink’s hand. “I kind of love materials that showcase the work done. I don’t like flat materials. I don’t like plain. I find this meticulous work quite meditative. I did most of the embroidery myself. For the flower look, I drew them digitally, and Labels and Things — a Belgium-based textile manufacturer — made them for me. Sometimes I make the embroideries first, and then intuitively think of a nice shape to put these flowers on.”

Annaëlle’s sketchbooks are filled with drawings and applications of these alternative life scenarios: a farm, a flower bouquet, a ballet dancer, and the intuitive color palette that later translated into the looks. Then the research process follows. “I always research history. There are a lot of great techniques that aren’t used that much anymore, and I kind of try to bring them back in my work.”

The backstage images were shot by Ilaicha Vandeputte exclusively for Enfnts Terribles.

The MA collections are on view on the 27th and 28th of June, 12:00 to 18:00 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Mutsaardstraat 31, 2000 Antwerpen, opening on the 26th of June at 18:00. For more information, visit the Academy’s website.
