Primavera Sound Announces Stunning Lineup for Barcelona and Madrid in 2023

People look at the lineup of the Spanish super-festival Primavera Sound with big eyes every year. After unpacking last summer with a total of ten days and snaring quite a few names exclusively, they also have something special in store for the next edition. In 2023 they are organizing two weekends. The first weekend at their original location in Barcelona, and the second one, for the first time, in Madrid. The bill is almost identical and shows that, in Spain, they know how to put together a strong gender-balanced lineup of 200 acts.

The headliners

Every year, Primavera Sound manages to program surprising headliners who have one of their first festival passages of the year there. British group Depeche Mode had previously been announced and will play there exclusively during the two weekends. In addition, Blur‘s big comeback has also been much talked about, and they will be joined on the day by Halsey, who promises to come with new work. Hip-hop god Kendrick Lamar just played acclaimed shows across Europe and was obviously not to be missed, as was Rosalía‘s big homecoming. The Spanish singer conquered the entire world with Motomami and guarantees an amazing show. And popular DJ Calvin Harris closes out the festival.

Pop stars and more

There is also a lot to discover among the headliners. The opening day sees NXWORRIES (the new project of Anderson. Paak and KNXWLEDGE), viral sensation Central Cee, the collective Drain Gang, and Nigerian rapper Rema, among others. British revelations Pinkpantheress and Self Esteem are also set to play, as do the imposing Sudan Archives and our Belgian rave duo Ascendant Vierge. Furthermore, we will also be watching to see how the hype around Isabella Lovestory and flowerovlove develops.

Saturday includes the grand return of Christine & The Queens, the artist of the moment Fred… Again, and Jack Antonoff’s group Bleachers. We are also curious to see how soul group Gabriels will fare with their fantastic live reputation, but we also look forward to the arrival of revelation Cavetown, new rap heroine Tems, and the extravagant Yves Tumor.

On the final day, pop fans will be in for a treat with Italian rock vamps Måneskin, the phenomenal FKA Twigs, the intriguing St Vincent, alt-pop fairy Caroline Polachek, Belgian techno queen Charlotte De Witte, and the extremely likable Maggie Rogers. These big pop names are further joined by the soothing Arlo Parks, the seductive Kelela, the to-be-watched Nia Archives, and Swedish rapper Yung Lean.

Tickets for Primavera Sound Barcelona and Madrid go on sale on Thursday 1st December at 12:00 noon CET. More info about the lineup, tickets, and festival can be found on their website.
