Remixing Plaid 101: How to Do It the High End Way

Trends come and go but the plaid print seems to be a keeper. For centuries the popular print has been a good friend to humankind. It helped us look smarter and made us better fashionistas too. So it was only right we reviewed our friendship for the better. Take a look at these 6 refreshing tricks to remix and re-wear the plaid, the high-end way.

A touch of neon

2018 will be a big year for neon. It’s coming back in different shapes, styles, and fabrics. As seen on CMMN SWDN’s FW18 runway the ‘frozen yellow’ color clashes with the grey plaid print. But the entire outfit works out perfectly.

The most sought after wool coat from Calvin Klein’s 205W39NYC collection was an it-item amongst female street style stars. However, the torch has been passed on to the men’s side. In Paris, we already spotted a few men styling the statement coat designed by Raf Simons.

Gucci-fy the plaid

If you haven’t noticed by now, Alessandro Michele’s way of doing things is never typical. While most fashion houses are modernizing their style, Gucci is revisiting the past. For its pre-fall 2018 menswear collection Gucci traveled to a nostalgic era. When it comes to remixing plaid, one of Alessandro’s new style techniques is to add a huge vintage statement bag to your daily ensemble.

Fendi to the rescue

Fendi’s Fall/Winter 2018 collection which was all about outerwear, taught us that a plaid-sur-plaid layering is totally okay. Even though it took us 15 minutes to decipher this Fendi silhouette beneath. We finally realized that a shiny plaid gilet is what we’re missing in our wardrobes.

Oversized plaid blazer

Oversized checkered blazers gained a critical place in our closets. Nonetheless, the go-to item isn’t planning on going anywhere. Plus, it’s the best addition to your look on any day.

Burberry plaid

After mourning for Christopher Bailey’s exit chez Burberry, on his turn Gosha Rubchinskiy made us excited again about the signature Burberry print. Also, his SS18 runway was all about showing a new way to properly remix and re-wear the trend. However, this only proves how present the English tartan print still is. Regardless of your age, we suggest you dig up all your old Burberry pieces, visit a thrift store or go on Gosha’s corner on Dover Street Market to stay ahead of the trend.
