Sasha Keable’s Guide to Going Independent

Sasha Keable is already one of the most celebrated voices of the UK and sells out venues in a matter of minutes. It’s no exaggeration to say that her course in recent years has been remarkable since she achieved big success without being signed to a big label. Her new EP ‘Intermission’ is her second project as an independent artist and sees her explore complex emotions like heartache, denial, and impression. Because Sasha Keable wants to empower everyone that you can follow your dreams, she made an eight-step counting guide to going independent.

1. Know your Unique Selling Point

That sounds super businessy, but you need to know what sets you apart and how to monopolize your USP to the fullest extent.

2. Be prepared to be your biggest cheerleader

Know that most days you’re going to have to get up and remind yourself why you do what you do and why you deserve to.

3. Prepare to put every penny you make back into your craft

Realise what is worth investing in and what’s going to make you money in the long run. Borrow, ask and return favours—you’re going to need the people around you.

4. Build relationships

Realise where you can help people/ where people can help you. Be nice to everyone. What can you offer people in return? When you’re in those beginning stages everyone you meet helps. You’ll be surprised how kind and supportive people can be.

5. Be creative with your ideas

You won’t have the budget to do everything you want to and that’s ok. So you need to find creative ways to achieve what you’d like to do. The photo on my IG with the most likes is a picture I took with a bedsheet for a backdrop.

6. Trust yourself!

Other people’s advice can be good but at the end of the day you know what will work best for you. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

7. Be easy on yourself

It’s ok to fail. It happens.

8. Reward yourself for the small things

Don’t get caught up in the end goal or you won’t enjoy anything that happens along the way.

Sasha Keable’s new EP ‘Intermission’ is out now on all platforms.
