Sterling Ruby Announces Fashion Brand S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA.

Artist Sterling Ruby announced his own ready-to-wear brand called S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA.. The brand’s first collection will be shown during Pitti Uomo in June. Ruby is known for the multifaceted nature of his practice, which includes painting, ceramics, collage, video and photography, textiles, sculpture and installations. We’re sure we’ll see some of those techniques return in his first collection.

Apart from Sterling Ruby’s previous work as an artist, there are just a few clues to what we should expect from his first collection. It will include unisex clothing and accessories. In a press release, the designer said the aesthetics of the new label will be a result of “ten years of experimentation and development.”

Sterling Ruby and Raf Simons

This won’t be Sterling Ruby’s first encounter with fashion, though. Raf Simons worked with the American artist for several of his collections, including a Fall 2012 couture collection for Dior. The two geniuses started collaborating in 2009, when they teamed up on a capsule collection of bleached jackets and denim.

Dior Couture Fall 2012 by Raf Simons, inspired by a work of Sterling Ruby

Dior’s Couture Fall 2012 Collection, which was Raf Simons’ debut for the French house, also included some looks that were inspired by Sterling Ruby’s art. The couture collection included two gowns and a coat that were inspired by works of Ruby. Later, the two collaborated yet again. Raf Simons’ Fall 2014 menswear collection was a result of his nine year-long friendship with the artist.

We’re excited to see where this is going! S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA.‘s first collection will launch globally this June at select stockists which will be announced later. For more updates, make sure to follow the ENFNTS TERRIBLES Instagram.
