The 10 Best Releases of the Week

We are secretly already dreaming of the upcoming summer and its numerous festivals, where we hope to discover some interesting talent and sing at the top of our lungs during the sets of our fave pop stars. To prepare ourselves as best as possible, we keep a close eye on all new releases and choose our favorite releases every week that know how to inspire us. Because our hearts beat pretty fast for emerging talent, we are highlighting ten young talents, most of whom are working without a major label.

1. Imanbek and Baby B3ns — Sunglasses

Are you familiar with the genre of ‘mausipop’? We’re huge fans of it, and that’s where rising star Baby B3ns comes in. Together with Kazakhstani DJ and producer Imanbek, the German artist crafted the clubby, Eurodance-inspired “Sunglasses”, which perfectly encapsulates the popular new genre. The track is half German and half English, making not only the sound but also the approach of this single unique. We’re putting on a pair of sunglasses when this track is played in the clubs.

2. Lana Del Rey — The Grants

We have long awaited the big comeback of American lolita Lana Del Rey, and she seems to be doing everything she can to release an absolute masterpiece. Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd will finally be released next week and, with the recent “A&W”, it already has one of Lana’s strongest songs ever. The follow-up single “The Grants” is slightly less experimental but shows Del Rey from her most vulnerable side. We can’t wait to weep while listening to her new album!

3. Isabella Lovestory — Latina

The title of Isabella Lovestory’s new single somewhat gives it away, but “Latina” is a song in which she embraces and highlights her roots. With reggaeton beats that would make even Rosalía jealous, the Honduran-Canadian talent creates a sensual atmosphere, emphasizing her pride in being a Latina woman. There is passion, fire, and temperament in this track. Summer may still be a while away, but with a single like “Latina”, our minds are floating to the summer months. Isabella Lovestory could become a real surprise this year, so we’re keeping our eyes and ears open for her upcoming singles.

4. venbee — Gutter

On “Gutter”, vendee starts off with a quiet stanza but, from the chorus onwards, builds towards an initial climax with the tight drum-‘n-bass beats of Whyjak & Litek (Central Cee, Ardee) and Shapes (Bru-C). However, the most striking attribute of the song is the bridge before each chorus, where the singer plays off her British accent wonderfully and ushers in the chorus with a real charm offensive. The single is similar to her breakthrough hit “Messy In Heaven” yet also sounds different due to a distinct mood structure. Venbee is one step closer to her final breakthrough with “Gutter”.

5. Nothing But Thieves — Welcome to the DCC

Rock bands often repeat themselves with every album they release, getting stuck in vicious circles, but the British band Nothing But Thieves is breaking that cycle. On “Welcome to the DCC”, the first single from their forthcoming album, they resolutely go for new influences, providing a particular swing to their sound. Once again, frontman Conor Mason’s voice proves to be an asset, ensuring this captivating rock song with ’80s pop influences its rightful place in our playlist.

6. Bobbi Lu — Metapwhore

British-Belgian Bobbi Lu has proven herself many times on the live circuit, but her first song has been a long time coming. Fortunately, our patience has been rewarded. Her debut single, “Metapwhore”, is a spectacular excursion along intriguing soundscapes, which manage to captivate us from the start. With its fragile yet majestic atmosphere, this track makes us enjoy this breathtaking musical revelation to the fullest.

7. Amaarae — Reckless & Sweet

Close your eyes and imagine: you are lying on the beach, the sun beaming on your skin, and you are looking to cool down with a cold cocktail. The only thing missing? The ideal soundtrack in your ears, but thankfully Amaarae takes care of that with “Reckless & Sweet”. The summery feelings of happiness splash all over this song, underlined by the Ghanaian singer’s sensual vocal lines. She already had a huge hit with “SAD GIRLZ LUV MONEY”, but the follow-ups do not disappoint either.

8. Dina Ayada — Popular

19-year-old Dina Ayada launched her career six years ago, and in that time, she has grown into a confident rapper with international potential. Her rap flow on her brand-new track “Popular” reminds us of Coi Leray, but with her own unique touch. The Belgian singer has always worked hard, and this single proves that hard work pays off. “Popular” is the next step towards immense popularity for Dina Ayada.

9. Aluna and TSHA — Killing Me

Aluna always guarantees absolute discs, pulling us onto the dance floor on every occasion. Together with London-based artist TSHA, she delivers her umpteenth bop with “Killing Me”. With house beats that sound so irresistibly good, a sly drop takes each chorus to the next level. So we are quietly beginning to wonder if the British talent can even make a bad song because every time Aluna hits the nail on the head.

10. MEYY & twst — QT

For MEYY’s new single “QT” (read: cute), she collaborated with hyper-pop newcomer twst. The Welsh artist fits perfectly within MEYY’s universe, possessing an equal amount of cuteness that provides the perfect counterbalance to the Belgian singer. MEYY could count on PC Music heroine caro♡ and her regular trusted pippin for the production. So the sound leans towards hypnotic hyper-R&B but sounds a little deeper in the details. “QT” is a perfect synopsis of everything MEYY’s music stands for: cute, sensual, and futuristic. The future looks bright for MEYY.
