The 10 Best Songs Of The Week

Are you desperately looking for brand-new songs to update your Spotify playlist? Don’t worry, we’re (once again) here for you. Every week, we pick the best songs of the week that surprised, moved, or electrified us. With a great range from big stars to upcoming singers, there’s room for everybody and everything. Turn up the volume because we discovered some true gems this week.

1. Isaac Dunbar — Bleach

When we spoke to Isaac Dunbar, he just released his third EP Evil Twin and moved to New York with a lot of big changes in his life coming up. Almost a year later, we finally get a brand-new song called “Bleach”. His unique approach to pop music seems to be even more inspired by eighties pop music while infusing it with modern elements. Isaac Dunbar is still only 18 years old but is doing what only a few others have achieved at his age.

2. Loyk — Drift Away

The Belgian R&B singer Loyk finally returned with new music after working with a new team on music. Together with some musicians and the upcoming producer Chiel Van Gysel, he worked on an EP that is being introduced by the first single “Drift Away”. The breathtaking song highlights his most fragile side and is another example that R&B doesn’t always need to be uptempo. Loyk found the beauty in simplicity and touches our soul with his mellow vocals.

3. ROLE MODEL — if jesus saves me, she’s my type

ROLE MODEL belongs to the new generation of pop stars that puts vulnerability first and isn’t shy to express how he feels. His new single “if jesus saves me, she’s my type” can be considered as a love letter to his rumored girlfriend Emma Chamberlain and has a lovely DIY spirit on the production level. It’s obvious that ROLE MODEL has butterflies in his stomach and wants to share his happiness with his fans without giving away too much.

4. Troye Sivan and Jay Som — Trouble

Troye Sivan (aka the king of the twinks) is taking his time to work on the follow-up of Bloom and gifted us his quarantine project In A Dream last year to bridge the time. Together with the duo Jay Some, Troye releases “Trouble”, the soundtrack of his new movie Three Months (releasing 23 February via Paramount+). The song feels like a flashback to his debut album Blue Neighbourhood but highlights that Troye has matured as an artist.

5. Mimi Webb — House On Fire

In 2021, the revenge-on-my-ex songs had their big comeback and became a new trend thanks to all the relatable TikToks. The British rising star Mimi Webb is the next artist to write all her frustrations down in her single “House On Fire” and manages to set our hearts on fire with this cute pop banger. Her break-out song “Good Without” has already become a global success, and we’re sure that “House On Fire” has the potential to repeat that success.

6. Tsar B and Reinel Bakole — Trophy

Tsar B and Reinel Bakole teamed up for the cinematic “Trophy”, where a glorious build-up guides us to the gates of heaven. The angelic vocal lines of Tsar B contrast with the haunting verses of our former On Our Radar star Reinel Bakole and merge into a sonic blockbuster. The song triggers your imagination and inspires your world of thoughts with its ethereal production that exceeds our reality.

7. Mahalia — Letter To Ur Ex

We’ve all been singing along to Mahalia’s breakthrough single “I Wish I Missed My Ex” but instead of taking revenge on her ex once more, the British singer tells a story from a different perspective. “Letter To Ur Ex” is the final stage of a broken heart and is about acceptance and recovery, where Mahalia expresses her sympathy for her boyfriend’s ex. She understands what the girl is feeling and wants her to know that there’s a time she should let her love start.

8. Boy Virgo and OLD PUP — blood and guts

The New Zealand-based hyperpop singer Boy Virgo counts Charli XCX, 100 Gecs, and Dorian Electra among his biggest inspirations, which is something you immediately hear when you listen to his new single “blood and guts”. Boy Virgo created an electronic space with London-based producer OLD PUP that is torn between angelic soundscapes and heavy-hitting choruses. We stan these new hyperpop talents!

9. Symrun — Gucci Emeralds

With a length of only 83 seconds, the new single of the Leeds-based artist Symrun is by far the shortest song of our selection but that plays to his advantage. “Gucci Emeralds” is a short trip with interesting percussions and a very intriguing vocal production. The devil truly is in the details because every replay offers new elements to be discovered and unfolds a new layer of the productions.

10. Magi Merlin — Free Grillz

Fasten your seatbelts, babes, because Magi Merlin has the power to drive you crazy. Described as a mix between Shygirl and Kelela, we immediately knew that this Canadian newcomer is something right up our alley. “Free Grillz” is a furious fusion between hip-hop and underground electro with exciting twists and turns. We’re literally obsessed by the confidence and laidbackness of Magi Merlin in her new offering.
