The 10 Best Songs Of The Week

Are you desperately looking for brand-new songs to update your Spotify playlist? Don’t worry because we’re (once again) here for you. Every week, we pick the best songs of the week that surprised, moved, or electrified us. With a great range of big stars to upcoming singers, there’s room for everybody and everything. Turn up the volume because we discovered some true gems this week.

1. Lous and The Yakuza — Kisé

Lous and The Yakuza made a splash with her debut album Gore in 2020 and continued to work on new music with her producer El Guincho, who’s also known for producing for Rosalía. Before she heads on her first tour, she promised new music, and she kept true to her word. “Kisé” is only two minutes long but bundles everything we love about her as an artist. It’s an uptempo bop that gets us excited for her festival performances.

2. Jazz Sanusi — Complicated

Every time we think we have discovered all Belgian talents, there’s a new act that surprises us with a debut single. The Antwerp-based singer Jazz Sanusi released her debut single “Complicated”, and the warm tone in her voice immediately took us to the gates of heaven. The song is inspired by soul, blues, and jazz, which translates into a very joyful song. If there is something that isn’t complicated, it is falling in love with Jazz Sanusi.

3. Lykke Li — NO HOTEL

The Scandinavian pop savior Lykke Li had a massive revival thanks to TikTok, where the slowed-down version of her song “sex money feelings die” trended. Her new single “NO HOTEL” is her first single since 2020 and is the first offering of her fourth album Eyeye (release: 20 May). Her stellar album So Sad So Sexy raised the bar for new music, but we’re far from disappointed with her new music. Her storytelling has even more character and crawls under our skin.

4. Eefje De Visser — Startschot

We’re usually not a big fan of Dutch music, but Eefje De Visser made us question that with her mesmerizing songs. Her recent album Bitterzoet belongs to our favorite records of 2020 and has set the tone for everything to come. After giving birth to her first child, she’s back with new music and will release her brand-new EP Blauwe Regen on April 15th. The first single “Startschot” is the launch of this project and is as strong as always. Eefje De Visser never lets us down.

5. Tate McRae — chaotic

Tate McRae has been teasing her debut album for a long time, and it seems like it has never been closer. “chaotic” is another foretaste and follows on hit singles like “you broke me first”, “she’s all i wanna be”, and “feel like shit”. Like most of her tracks, Tate faces reality and remains brutally honest in her lyrics, which makes her stand out amongst all the pop acts. The Canadian singer is ready for superstardom and will showcase her talent on her upcoming European tour.

6. Celeste — To Love A Man

It’s incredible to see how much Celeste grew since we spend an afternoon with her in 2019, where we interviewed and photographed the singer right before her big breakthrough. In the meantime, her fabulous debut album Not Your Muse was released and made her the first female artist to reach number one in five years. While we still need to wait a bit for her second album, she was asked by Tate Modern to curate a late evening for their new exhibition ‘Surrealism Beyond Borders’. To celebrate that occasion, she shared the song “To Love A Man” and gives us goosebumps—just like how she did with “Strange”.

7. Sabrina Claudio — Better Version

We need to confess something: we have a crush on Sabrina Claudio, and her new song “Better Version” really intensified our feelings. The half Puerto Rican, half Cuban singer already has three albums to her name and announced her fourth long-player Based On A Feeling with “Better Version”. Her irresistible voice guides us through the most beautiful places in our minds, and we can’t wait to see her live this summer at the Belgian festival Rock Werchter.

8. AJA — Love At First Song

The 17-year-old singer AJA is still a fresh face in the music scene but don’t let that distract you. Together with Jimmy McGorman (Avril Lavinge, Gwen Stefani) and two-time Grammy award-winning songwriter Will Champlin, she wrote “Love At First Song” in which she declares her love for music. The song is an absolute pop belter with a very strong chorus and makes us admire her passion for songwriting even more.

9. Layke — Help Me Out

Sick and tired of the conservative environment in Dallas, Layke packed her bags and moved to Los Angeles to start her music career. After collaborating with artists such as Snoop Dogg, she found her sound and stepped into a more emotive era with a more alt-pop approach. “Help Me Out” centers on the unsettling sensation of an anxiety attack, which also is the concept of the music video. Layke took her time to find her identity as an artist, but it was more than worth it.

10. blondestandard — California Dreams

Blondes always have more fun—just ask Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. Even though her name might be blondestandard, the Hollywood-based singer is far from standard. Her fun approach towards pop music has already resulted in a good debut single, and her second single “California Dreams” is equally as interesting. The song pays an homage to her home and discusses the pros and cons of living in Hollywood by playing with a very dreamy melody.
