The 10 Best Songs Of The Week

You’ve probably been waiting for our newest selection of the best songs of the past seven days. Like every week, our weekly recap is filled with gems that deserve a spot in your playlist. Since we simply couldn’t resist these ten songs, we’ve already bundled them in our amazing Spotify-playlist (are you already following it?)

1. Billie Eilish & Rosalía – Lo Vas A Olvidar

Billie Eilish was without any doubt the biggest star on this planet for the last few years. Everything she touched turned into a hit. The American singer is now working on a second album, but in the meantime, she decided to make a song for the popular HBO-series Euphoria. She made the track in collaboration with the Spanish phenomenon Rosalía.

“Lo Vas A Olvidar” – or “You Won’t Forget” – became the perfect mix of both worlds. For the first time, we hear Billie sing in Spanish and it sounds surprisingly good. (is there anything she can’t do?). Surrounded by dark beats and trembling bases, the two singers get under your skin. The single will blend perfectly in Euphoria and makes us look forward for the next season!

2. Emma Bale – mind games

Emma Bale has set her mind on impressing everyone with her brand new single “mind games”. In the past months, the Belgian singer already released a handful of singles that will be featured on her highly anticipated debut record and surprised us with another great release.

Emma Bale has matured in different ways and that also reflects in “mind games”. The single plays a bit more with structures compared to her earlier singles and the music video took our breath away. The new chapter of Emma’s career is thrilling and is building up to something greater!

3. Cariss Auburn – Float

There’s a special place in our heart for artists like Cariss Auburn that just bring something new to the music industry. The British artist winds us around her finger by mixing 90’s influences with 80’s funk and a lot of soul. The emerging singer has been experimenting ever since her debut in 2015 but she never sounded as convincing as she does now.

“Float” is just such an effortless alt-pop song that has conquered our hearts. The chorus is definitely the star of the song and is the key to this wonderful dreamy song. Cariss Auburn has been looking for her sound for some time but blew us away with this magical song.

4. David Numwami – Thema

David Numwami has to be one of the next big stars in Belgium. The Brussels-based singer got the opportunity to go on tour with no other than Charlotte Gainsbourg, released some stunning singles, and gave a magical performance at ESNS last week. He has all ingredients to make it and proves it once more with “Thema”.

“Thema” is the perfect symbiosis between a catchy beat, a chill piano, and some magical French lyrics. David Numwami talks about his love, which makes the song extra glamorous. With some additional dreamy guitar and electronic effects, the Belgian singers possess your mind. Thanks to some repetitive lyrics, he has surely made an earwig!

5. CLOVES – Sicko

The utterly amazing artist CLOVES moved from Australia to London to start her adventure as an artist and that courage paid off. Her first album One Big Nothing became a critically acclaimed collection of beautiful songs and a new album seems to be on its way with a totally new aesthetic.

CLOVES gathered the right people around her and serves another delicious track with “Sicko”. The melody of the song might sound familiar because it seems to be based on the legendary “Tom’s Diner” by Suzanne Vega but CLOVES managed to make it her own and really sell it.

6. Slayyyter – Troubled Paradise

The new queen of pop could potentially be Slayyyter. The new pop hero announced her first album and released the title track of that album today. Slayyyter was heavily influenced by Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Lady Gaga in the early stage of her career, which we totally hear in her songs.

Slayyyter songs aren’t just songs, they’re bangers! “Troubled Paradise” is pop perfection and has a little cheekiness we adore. It’s so over the top pop and has probably the most infectious beats you’ll hear today. Slayyyter won’t be in trouble if she keeps making such bops!

7. Griff – Black Hole

Since her debut single, we knew Griff would become a big star one day. The BBC had also been watching her and made her one of the contenders for BBC Sound of 2021. The British singer ended in fifth place, but that couldn’t stop her. Last week she released her new hit in the making: “Black Hole”.

The song indeed sounds very dark, but that is the biggest charm of “Black Hole”. Griff herself is the light at the end of the tunnel with her warm voice. ‘There’s a big black hole where my heart used to be’, sings the British star kinda sad. A big contrast with the happy and catchy beats on the song, but that is the beauty of “Black Hole”.

8. Charli Adams & Nightly – Maybe Could Have Loved

After growing up in a conservative catholic family, Charli Adams flowered to a pop star. The American singer is working towards her debut album Bullseye and already released several tracks. For the new “Maybe Could Have Loved”, she worked together with her roommate Nightly, and maybe that’s the reason why you can almost feel the chemistry.

On her latest track, she combines a dreamy indie guitar with some electronic effects and a chill beat. Charli herself adds her warm voice, which is the icing on the cake for a warm love song. Nightly is a perfect counterweight, but the most beautiful part is when they combine their powers. “Maybe Could Have Loved” is the perfect symbioses between sad and happy!

9. DEJA – Sit Down

DEJA already shared the stage with huge acts like Stormzy or Etta Bond but the spotlight finally shines on her own music. The singer is known for her distinctive voice and energy that leaves a lasting impression on the listener. It’s DEJA’s time to showcase her talent and she takes that chance with both hands.

“Sit Down” is an absolute joy to listen to because of the great cohesion between the different elements. We get some lovely and sultry vocals, icy instrumentals, and fierce lyrics. DEJA is just starting off and already has us in her bag.

10. Balthazar – On a Roll

Belgian pride Balthazar is working on a new record. Sand is set to be released next month, but the first singles made us already look forward. The Ghent based band continued their sultry path between dark baselines and catchy guitars. The band is on a roll and highlights that feeling again on the applicable “On a Roll”.

From the start, you can hear that the new song is very greasy. The baselines and guitars are back, but this time there are also some horns. Jinte and Maarten have a great interaction thanks to their high and low pitched voices. “On a Roll” takes four minutes of your time, but that’s totally worth it.
