The Theme of the 2019 MET Gala is “Camp: Notes on Fashion” and it’s co-hosted by Lady Gaga

The first Monday of May is traditionally the most fashionable of them all. Each year on that first Monday of May, the Metropolitan Museum of Art hosts its annual Gala, which is a fundraising for the benefit of the MET’s Costume Institute in New York City. This year’s theme will be “Camp: Notes on Fashion” and it will be co-hosted by Lady Gaga, Alessandro Michele, Harry Styles, Serena Williams, and Anna Wintour.

Just when you thought the Met Gala red carpet couldn’t get any crazier, the MET announced its next theme: camp, as in all things campy in fashion. Gucci will be the sponsor of the show. With collaborators such as Elton John and Dapper Dan, by putting human heads, balaclavas, Paramount Pictures logos and more on his costumey runways, Alessandro Michele is definitely the right designer to sponsor the event.

Wtf is camp?

Titled “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” the exhibition will run from May 9th till September 8, 2019. It’s inspired by cultural critic Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay “Notes on Camp,” which posited different ways the concept can be construed, according to the announcement published on Vogue.com. Sontag argued that camp is the “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration… style at the expense of content… the triumph of the epicene style.”

We are excited as fuck about the 2019 MET Gala theme and we can’t wait to see what the stars are going to wear! Keep an eye on our Instagram page for updates.
