These Are 6 Albums We’re Looking Forward to in February

Despite our music consumption relying more than ever on playlists on streaming platforms or social media, albums remain an artistic expression of an artist in which stories are told and show a larger overall picture of their talent. As avid music fans, we therefore want to share with you six upcoming releases that we will at least listen to from A to Z and, based on the previously released singles, already warmly recommend.

Zara Larsson – Venus

Pop girlies, rise! For us, the most popular, Swedish export after IKEA undoubtedly remains Zara Larsson, who we think still is among the most underrated pop artists. She may have several billion streams behind her name, but it still feels as if Larsson is not credited enough for her pop gems. “Can’t Tame Her”, “End Of Time” and more recently “You Love Who You Love” showed that her fourth album Venus might be counted among the best pop albums of the year. We’re totally ready for it!

Venus will be released on 9 February.

Declan McKenna – What Happened to the Beach?

Declan McKenna was only nineteen when he released his debut album What Do You Think About the Car? including his breakthrough song “Brazil” and toured the world with it. He is now 25 and ready for his third full-length album What Happened to the Beach?, for which he drew inspiration from Unknown Mortal Orchestra and St Vincent. The guitar pop of this new era already marks his break from his previous projects and, based on his first singles, sounds promising.

What Happened to the Beach? will be released on 9 February.

MAVEE – Out Of Time

R&B is still far too underrated in Belgium, but young Brussels singer MAVEE wants to change that soon. After releasing a first project in 2021 with For Now, for the follow-up she worked with producer Deja Vu (MEYY, Tessa Dixson, …) to turn her relationship break-up into songs. In the process, she shows both her tough and fragile side and shows on Out Of Time that her time to break through has arrived.

Out Of Time will be released on 9 February.

Porcelain Id – Bibi:1

Porcelain id is on its way to conquer the rest of the world from Antwerp. The charismatic storyteller has spent the past few years working on their debut album Bibi:1, telling their own life story and processing their move from a small village to a busy city. From encounters with strangers on the street to an ode to their life partner, Hubert Tuyshime manages to touch us with every song, and now seems to be gaining prominence thanks to celebrated performances at Fifty Lab and Eurosonic. Well deserved and an absolute talent.

Bibi:1 will be released on 16 February.

Erika de Casier – Still

After Danish singer-songwriter Erika de Casier immediately grabbed a cult album in 2019 with her debut album Essentials, she was praised by many for her unique sound. Collaborations with the likes of Dua Lipa, Mura Masa and Shygirl followed. On the long-awaited Still, we may once again dream away on the danceable melodies, for which she is joined by contributions from They Hate Change, Shygirl and Blood Orange. The first single “Lucky” has already become a fixture in our playlist and shows that Casier is still a unique artist in all aspects.

Still will be released on 21 February.

Allie X – Girl with No Face

It seems that Canadian pop avant-gardist Allie X wants to apply to become our album of the year with her new album Girl with No Face. At least the latest single “Off With Her Tits” has been on endless repeat with us since its release and has increased our admiration for the singer tenfold. We’ve been fans of her sinister pop for a while now, but with Girl with No Face (which we could secretly listen to already), she transcends herself and has definitely caught us as superfans.

Girl with No Face will be released on 23 February.
