French photographer William Klein was born in New York City in 1928 but permanently settled in France after being discharged from the US Army. He started his career as a painter under the wings of Fernand Léger. However, as soon as the techniques of photography moved on, he did as well.
William Klein gained worldwide fame as a fashion photographer for Vogue and for his photo essays on various cities. Klein’s work was called revolutionary because of his “ambivalent and ironic approach to the world of fashion”. He danced over all the rules that were normal at that time.
In and Out of Fashion
Especially for the ‘In and Out of Fashion’ exposition, William Klein hand-picked 34 photographs out of his oeuvre. It’s a perfect mix between his fashion pictures, lifestyle images and street style photography.
