Upcycling for the Future: Maison Valentino Collaborates With Tissu Market and Highlights Sustainability

Those familiar with today’s world of fashion will know that, in recent years, the industry has been moving toward global change. Facing various severe concerns, including the burning climate and energy crisis, now more than ever, sustainability stands as a central value in the vision of many brands. Italian fashion giant Maison Valentino decided to continue to be part of this sustainable-conscious change by announcing its collaboration with French textile retailer Tissu Market. Together they aim to bring a new creative mindset and strength to the fashion industry by giving old archival fabrics a second life.

Sleeping Stock

With great pride and eagerness for a sustainable future, Maison Valentino launches the collaboration titled Sleeping Stock. This green project, which started as early as September 2021, aims to draw attention to the problem of waste within the fashion industry. The concept behind it is all about creating a virtuous circle of metaphorically sleeping fabrics from past couture collections. The importance of the initiative goes back to loving dedication to society, the industry, and the young generation that will make a difference. In short: encouraging growth and development in a sustainable way.

Vision of a Synergy

With the #ValentinoSleepingStock move, the goal is not just to make a one-time investment but to start an ongoing project that can grow over the years. Like the Italian brand’s DNA and vision, it’s about embracing a mindset that puts beauty and luxury into a responsible perspective. So far, the reuse of about 22,000 meters of Haute Couture and Prêt-à-porter fabrics has contributed to a huge CO2 reduction. Frank Lellouce, the founder of Tissu Market, emphasizes the common values that guide this new partnership.

With this commitment, Maison Valentino is one of the first to make its old fabrics transparently accessible for private buyers. Moreover, all proceeds from sales are donated to the Bottega dell’Arte di Valentino. A craftmanship training program that profiles the atelier and passes on the savoir-faire to the new guard.
