As a worldwide interior phenomenon, Ikea is always curious about what’s happening around the globe. During their quest to find out more about the contemporary African design landscape, they bumped into Indaba. This design collective gathers creatives from several African countries and grew into a renowned institution. Since 1995 they’ve been organizing the Design Indaba Festival in South Africa to exhibit the creations of international talent.
A space for everyone: Overällt
“Överallt” is the Swedish word for “everywhere,” which also became the general theme for the collection. The pieces are designed in such a way that they can be placed everywhere and there’s place for everyone. Perfect for both in- and outside the house is the bench in eucalyptus wood. You can make it as long as you want by adding new components. Its design is based on a Kenyan evening ritual where friends and family cook together.
Besides the bench, there’s a rocking chair by Senegalese designer Bibi Seck and a minimalistic chair in plywood by Issa Diabaté from Côte d’Ivoire. Överallt also contains pots and pans, colorful rugs, cushions, plaids and smaller deco items. It’s the collection par excellence to upgrade your house and garden to the perfect summer getaway.
Överallt will be available from May 7 in all Belgian Ikea stores.
