Which once was a platform for young people who were struggling with their identity has now become a place where LGBTQ+ related stuff is censored. Which is all very confusing and not okay!
As one could expect, social media like Twitter and YouTube itself are blowing up. Some of the biggest vloggers and YouTube-stars have reacted to the “Restricted Mode”-button. Amongst them is Gigi Gorgeous, who is an LGBTQ+ icon and openly transgender. She made a video about the restrictions shortly after finding out about them. Gigi clearly told fans in a new video that she’s doing nothing that should be blocked. The star immediately launched a new hashtag; #ProudToBeRestricted.
Tyler Oakley, another YouTube-star and gay icon, has told Teen Vogue that the filtering could have negative effects on the community. “YouTube has always been a place for disenfranchised voices to reach audiences who are actively seeking representation in media,” he explained to Teen Vogue. “It’s often the first place many LGBTQ+ youth around the world see themselves and their stories shared and celebrated. Blocking LGBTQ+ creators and content is harmful, plain and simple.”
We, at ENFNTS TERRIBLES, totally agree and think these restrictions are 100% unacceptable. Nobody should be blocked or censored for openly talking about stuff like being gay or transgender.
