You Probably Didn’t Know Zedd & Alessia Cara’s “Stay” Is a Rip Off

Zedd & Alessia Cara’s “Stay” is a major hit, there’s no doubt about that. But the iconic beginning of the song is not something they’ve made themselves. When the song was released a few months ago, fans of Banks noticed some big similarities with the singer’s song called “Poltergeist”. For the intro of that song, she used a sample of “Hold On Jus’ A Li’l While Longer” and tweaked it a lot. It is that exact same tweaked sample that the duo behind “Stay” used for their intro.

Let’s listen to the original first. You’ll immediately notice its intro is exactly the same as Zedd and Alessia Cara’s monster hit. This is Poltergeist by Banks.

Now that you’ve been reminded of Banks’ song from 2016, Let’s listen to Zedd’s hit with Alessia Cara. This is the well known “Stay” by Zedd & Alessia Cara.

You’ve obviously heard where they stole parts of Banks’ song.

Banks, who is one of our personal favorites, has been copied before. Last time, Rihanna allegedly stole the intro of “Waiting Game” for one of Riri’s monster hits “Desperado“. This was a far less obvious rip off than the one on “Stay”, though.

Banks’ reaction

When fans started talking about the rip off, they all tagged Banks, hoping for a response to the theft. The singer’s response was everything you want your idol to say at moments like these. The queen of alternative pop music tweeted “My fans know. That  is all I care about.”, which is a perfect answer. She’s just acting like the queen that she is.
