10 New Music Releases You Have to Listen to Right Now

If you’re a frequent reader of us, you know the drill by now: the end of the week means that we present you with a new list of ten of our favorite music releases. Get ready to add some new gems to your Spotify playlist!

1. Charles — Far Gone

Ever wondered what happens to the winners of talent shows? One day they’re on your TV and the next day they seem to be gone forever. Luckily for us, Charlotte Foret’s story goes differently. In 2019, she won The Voice Belgique and under the name of Charles, this 19-year-old became quite the hype with her debut single “Wasted Time” in May 2020.

Now, she brings us her second single “Far Gone”, a catchy song with the potential to make it big. But don’t let the overall happy tune fool you because “Far Gone” is about domestic violence, an issue one in four women in Wallonia were the victim of in 2019. The problem should be talked about, believes Charles, and that’s why “Far Gone” is a very important song to her.

2. Mallrat — Rockstar

After three EPs, Australian singer and rapper Mallrat is a force to be reckoned with. If you want to get to know Mallrat’s vibe, just watch the video of her new single “Rockstar”. The animated, pastel bunnies capture her dreamy, soft music perfectly. But be aware, it’s not all cute and fluffy: the calm lyrics are amazingly interrupted by distorted, electric guitars, which makes this sound so much more interesting. No wonder she belongs to the most popular acts in Australia and New Zealand!

3. SKIA — Pocket

Sticking to the catchy synthpop that we’ve grown to love from her, Scandinavian singer SKIA releases her new single “Pocket”. It reminds us of her previous bangers like “Anyone”, a single she worked on with the one and only Paul McCartney.

The punchy percussion and fun guitar melodies of “Pocket” give it the power to instantly make you feel happy. Not only is the melody sweet, but the theme is as well: it’s about friendship and working through your problems together, instead of avoiding them.

4. Cyra Gwynth ft K1d — No

Cyra Gwynth and her new single “No” are getting a big yes from us. The song gives Belgian rapper K1d his moment to shine, while still completely fitting into Gwynth’s groovy vibe. Ever since 2018, this Belgian singer with Dutch and Filipino roots has been releasing R&B track after track, like “high” and “not the one”. She’s known for her strong beats and sensual singing, and “No” is serving all of that.

5. Jónsi ft Robyn Cero — Salt Licorice

Most of you will know Icelandic musician Jónsi as the singer and guitarist for the post-rock band Sigur Rós, but he’s also a solo artist and released his first solo album Go in 2010. After waiting over ten years, he’s finally dropping a new album. Earlier this year, Jónsi released three singles as a preview, and now, right before the release of the album Shiver, he presents his fourth single: “Salt Licorice”. This duet with Swedish singer Robyn — from the hit “Dancing On My Own” — brings an ode to Scandinavian pain and will warm the hearts of both Robyn’s and Jónsi’s fans.

6. Cero Ismael — Missing Out

You don’t want to miss out on Amsterdam-based singer Cero Ismael. As a rather new artist with just a few singles behind his name, he now steps into the music world with a contemporary, unique mix of R&B, hip hop, and soul. In his new single “Missing Out” he sings and raps about partners who grow apart from each other. It’s part of an upcoming project, and we can’t wait to hear more of his dreamy music.

7. Romy — Lifetime

Need a refreshing and fun bop to listen to on these rainy days? Romy, the lead singer from the British indie band The xx, has you covered. Her debut solo single “Lifetime” provides us with an interesting and energetic sound to dance to and enjoy our weekend.

Soon, Romy will release her first solo album, just like her bandmates, Oliver and Jamie. Besides that, they are working on new music for the band as well. Exciting times!

8. ONCE1X ft Yung Mavu — Be Like Me

Just last week, we were writing about Belgian hip hop sensation Yung Mavu’s new single, but now he deserves a spot on our list again. Yung Mavu worked together with ONCE1X, a rapper from Antwerp, to create the banger “Be Like Me”.  It’s the first single of ONCE1X’s upcoming EP, where we expect even more catchy beats and great lyrics.

9. Jorja Smith ft Popcaan — Come Over

She went from Starbucks barista to worldwide popstar with her successful debut album Lost & Found. Of course, we’re talking about the British R&B singer Jorja Smith. While working on her second album, Jorja kept herself quite busy as “Come Over” is her fifth single of 2020. For example, she previously released “By Any Means”, a song to support the BLM movement. And now she’s here again with famous rapper Popcaan by her side. “Come Over” is an uptempo single that arrived with a heroic, animated music video.

10. IKRAAAN — Cobra

Don’t get distracted by her soft voice because her words are important to hear. Belgian singer IKRAAAN was a finalist in the talent show De Nieuwe Lichting. Although she didn’t win the show, she won over many hearts with her compelling voice and unique way of storytelling in her music. She released her debut EP HAPPY PILL in 2019, and she’s now working hard on her debut album. IKRAAAN will conquer everyone with her new single “Cobra”, which is another hint of what we can expect from her first LP.
