9 December Movies to End 2022 With

It’s almost time to say goodbye to 2022, which also means the approaching end of our personally curated film calendar. But not to worry because we’re closing out this year in style with an exciting list of new arrivals this month. From a spiced-up Christmas movie to a fun animation film or even a feel-good musical… Take a look at what December is bringing because there’s sure to be something you’ll love!

1. Violent Night

American actor David Harbour is coming as your not-so-dear Santa Claus. In Violent Night, we get a very atypical Christmas tale when a group of mercenaries sets out to rob a wealthy family. This Christmas comedy gives a good dose of both action and humor. We predict you don’t want to end up on this Santa’s naughty list!

‘Violent Night’ is coming to selected theaters on December 2.

2. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish

In the mood for an entertaining family movie? This December, your furry ginger cat in black boots is back for his new adventure with Puss in Boots: The Last Wish! When Puss in Boots realizes he has already lost eight of his nine cat lives, he embarks on a brave journey to the wishing star to reclaim his lost lives. Although this is not without its challenges along the way!

‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ is coming to theaters on December 7.

3. Maestro(s)

In Maestro(s), we get an intimate look at the story of the Dumars: orchestra directors from father to son. One at the end of his career, and the other at the beginning of his career. However, things become tumultuous when son Denis finds out that his father has been invited to direct La Scala, an invitation that was meant for him. Maestro(s) is the latest feature film from promising French director and actor Bruno Chiche.

‘Maestro(s)’ is coming to theaters on December 7.

4. Emancipation

American actor Will Smith has snagged his new lead role in the Apple TV+ original called Emancipation. Inspired by a true story, the film follows Peter, a slave from Louisiana who managed to escape the harsh life on a plantation. Unique to the film is its use of color and grading. American director Antoine Fuqua and cinematographer Robert Richardson purposely made the choice to put the film in a dark mode to emphasize the brutal nature of the story.

‘Emancipation’ is coming to Apple TV+ on December 9.

5. Something from Tiffany’s

How many problems can a swapped proposal ring cause? As it turns out, quite a lot if the upcoming movie Something from Tiffany’s is to be believed! This one has everything for a perfect movie night: just the right amount of humor, love, and Christmas spirit. American actress Zoey Deutch as the lead is another bonus!

‘Something from Tiffany’s’ is coming to Amazon Prime Video on December 9.

6. Avatar: The Way of Water

After the first Avatar in 2009, which is considered one of the most successful films of all time, the second one is finally here! Over the past few weeks, the cast has already attended a few world premieres, but we are patiently waiting to see it on the big screen. Avatar: The Way of Water takes place more than a decade later than where we left off, yet we follow the same characters Jake and Neytiri, who now live with their children in the mythical world of Pandora.

‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ is coming to Belgian theaters on December 14.

7. Babylon

If Babylon‘s trailer didn’t convince you yet, the incredible cast certainly will! The feature includes Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Jean Smart, and the OG Spiderman himself: Tobey Maguire! This new comedy-drama pulls out all the stops to bring the glamorous Hollywood of the 1920s back to life. We have high expectations for this one, for sure!

‘Babylon’ is coming to selected theaters on December 23.

8. Reviviendo la Navidad

You may not be waiting on another corny Christmas movie, but consider this one just in case: Reviviendo la Navidad is a Mexican feel-good movie about a man doomed to relive Christmas Eve over and over again. If you’re still not convinced, the trailer might just win you over…

‘Reviviendo la Navidad’ is coming to Netflix on December 20.

9. Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical

We’re sure by now your Tiktok For You page has been taken over by the dancing girl with her red beret. Well, start practicing the full choreography because, as a farewell gift to 2022, you get a musical remake of Roald Dahl’s most famous children’s book: Matilda. Whether you love or hate musicals, this one is a nostalgic must-see to end December with!

‘Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical’ is coming to Netflix on December 23.
