Leigh Bardugo has written a slew of books set in the same universe: the Grishaverse, with the first novel being Shadow and Bone. However, unlike the novel, the Netflix series is actually based on the first novel as well as the Six of Crows duology, making the series even new enough for those already familiar with the books.
‘Shadow and Bone’: One of Netflix’s Biggest Releases of 2021 Coming this Friday
Book Twitter already knows all about one of Netflix’s most anticipated releases of the year because they’ve been buzzing about it since it was first announced. What are we talking about? Shadow and Bone the new Netflix series coming out this Friday based on the worldwide bestselling Grishaverse novels by Leigh Bardugo.
What’s it about?
Shadow and Bone is set in a war-torn world, terrorized by dark forces. But when orphan and foot soldier Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) unleashes an extraordinary power during the most traumatic event of her life, she finds herself being the target of all things evil. Now it’s up to her to hone her new power and fight against those trying to destroy the world. Where the Six of Crows duology comes in is the charismatic crew of criminals that won’t make Alina’s journey any easier.
Need more Shadow and Bone content?
Even though Shadow and Bone won’t be out until Friday, fans and curious minds can already get a ten-minute glimpse of the first episode on Thursday via Netflix’s YouTube channel and other social media channels.
And once you’ve binged the entire show and are completely hooked (because trust us, you will be) Netflix is releasing a special on Saturday. In Shadow and Bone: The Afterparty, the stars of the Netflix series will discuss the epic combat scenes, answer some fan questions, and play some trivia as well. To say Shadow and Bone fans, old and new, are about to be well-fed is an understatement!
