1. The Sons of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness

As always, Netflix is giving true crime lovers some intriguing content with their newest true-crime documentary, The Sons of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness. This time, Netflix releases a documentary on the serial killer known as Son of Sam, who wreaked havoc on New York City in the ‘70s. The four-part docuseries does a deep dive into journalist Maury Terry’s quest to find out if the serial killer worked alone or was actually working with a satanic cult. 

‘The Sons of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness’ is coming to Netflix on May 5. 

2. And Tomorrow the Entire World

And Tomorrow the Entire World is a German Antifa drama that received glowing reviews when it premiered in Germany in March 2021. The movie tells the story of Luisa, who connects with a collective of Antifa activists. She quickly finds herself in trouble when the group comes to a crossroads: is violence acceptable against hatred? 

‘And Tomorrow the Entire World’ is coming to Netflix on May 6. 

3. Jupiter’s Legacy

After acquiring the Millarworld Universe, Netflix is finally releasing the superhero-drama Jupiter’s Legacy. Based on the comic of the same name by creator Mark Millar, the series follows the first generation of superheroes who rose to prominence after receiving powers in the 1930s. Now revered as the elder guard, their children struggle with their parents’ legacy. Spanning from the 1930s to the present day, Jupiter’s Legacy promises to be a fun ride for superhero lovers.

4. Monster

After premiering at Sundance Film Festival in 2018, Monster is finally getting released to the masses thanks to Netflix. Based on the novel of the same name by Walter Dean Myers, Monster tells the story of 17-year-old Steve Harmon (Kelvin Harrison Jr.), an honor student charged with felony murder. What follows is a complicated trial that could have him end up in jail for life.

5. Money, Explained

Money, everybody loves it, and everybody hates it as well. It just seems like the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Money, Explained is another Vox documentary that is going to explain everything money-related. From credit cards to casinos and scammers to student loans: it’s all covered in this documentary. While it’s focused on America, it’s still interesting to know more about money for the international folks.

‘Money, Explained’ is coming to Netflix on May 11. 

6. The Woman in the Window 

It has been a journey for The Woman in the Window, even though the movie hasn’t even been released. It was originally set to release in 2019 but was pulled back after negative test screenings. The new release date was then delayed because of Covid, but eventually, Netflix snagged the movie up. The Woman in the Window follows Anna Fox, an agoraphobic psychologist who befriends her neighbor across the street from her. However, her life gets turned upside down when her neighbor appears to have disappeared.  

‘The Woman in the Window’ is coming to Netflix on May 14. 

7. Halston

For those interested in fashion, Halston might be for you. The limited series tells the story of the iconic fashion designer Roy Halston Frowick (Ewan McGregor). You might not have heard of him before but his designs ended up in Vogue, on the catwalk, and even on former First Lady Jackie Kennedy. He lived a remarkable life, and we cannot wait to binge this limited series.

‘Halston’ is coming to Netflix on May 14. 

8. Who Killed Sara?

The Mexican series Who Killed Sara has been dominating the Top 10 since it was first dropped in March 2021 and is now already back with a season two. The series follows Alex Guzmán, who is hellbent on finding out who killed his sister Sara after spending 18 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Wanting to get revenge on the Lazcano family, he starts unearthing their darkest secrets. 

‘Who Killed Sara’ is coming to Netflix on May 19. 

9. Special (Season 2)

After a well-received first season in 2019 that even managed to get three short-form Emmy nominations, Special is back for a second and final season. The semi-autobiographical show tells the story of Ryan Hayes (Ryan O’Connell), a young gay man with cerebral palsy who decides to take on life courageously. Unlike the first season, the final season will consist of 30-minute episodes with eight episodes total.

‘Special’ is coming to Netflix on May 20. 

10. Army of the Dead

From filmmaker Zack Snyder (Zack Snyder’s Justice League) comes zombie movie Army of the Dead. In a world where Las Vegas has been walled off after a zombie outbreak, Scott Ward (Dave Bautista) is approached by a casino boss to get his money back from behind the wall before the government nukes the place in 32 hours. And since he’s got nothing to lose, Ward takes on a zombie-filled Las Vegas with a ragtag team of experts. If you enjoy zombies and a whole bunch of fighting, Army of the Dead is gonna be right up your alley.

‘Army of the Dead’ is coming to Netflix on May 21. 

11. Blue Miracle

Based on a true story, Blue Miracle follows the story of Omar (Jimmy Gonzalez), the head of the Mexican Casa Hogar orphanage. After a hurricane wreaks havoc on Casa Hogar, Omar plans to partake in the world’s biggest fishing tournament in hopes of saving the orphanage. To do so, he gets help from the kids of Casa Hogar, and they in turn get help from a washed-up fisherman (Dennis Quaid). Judging by the trailer, this movie might make you shed some tears. 

‘Blue Miracle’ is coming to Netflix on May 27. 

12. Lucifer (Season 5B)

The devil doesn’t stay dead for long. After getting canceled at the end of season three, Netflix picked up Lucifer for a final season four, which then became a final season five, which then became a final season six as of now. Lucifer tells the story of Lucifer Morningstar, the actual devil, who is a nightclub owner and a consultant for homicide detective Chloe Decker on the side. The first part of season five dropped in August 2020, and now the second part is about to drop. Honestly, we can’t wait to see what happens next! 

‘Lucifer’ (season 5B) is coming to Netflix on May 28.
