The 10 Best Songs of the Week

Halloween isn’t too far away, pumpkin spiced lattes are back again, and the weather is getting shitty. It’s clearly October and Autumn has officially started, which means that we can change our summer closet into our winter closet. Luckily, there’s looooots of new music to get you happy again. To guide you through the massive load of new releases, we picked our ten favorites of the week and added them to our amazing Spotify playlist.

1. Angèle — BRUXELLES JE T’AIME

Angèle may live in Paris now, but her heart still belongs to Brussels. The Belgian singer has had some massive years behind her after her debut album Brol was an instant success. Sold out stadiums across Europe, becoming the face of Chanel, and collaborating with global superstar Dua Lipa on “Fever”. It’s clear that her second album will take her to even bigger opportunities.

Her comeback single “Bruxelles Je T’Aime” is a great résumé  of everything we heard from her so far. It’s a super cute, catchy track that has a highly energetic chorus and slightly satirical lyrics. Her love declaration to Brussels is an immense bop we can’t get out of our heads at the moment.

2. Jesse Jo Stark — Cry On Me

Jesse Jo Stark is the new fashion muse of Balmain and contributed to their celebrated Fracture series. Besides running her own label Deadly Doll and being in a relationship with Yungblud, she keeps herself busy by making very good music that has amazed us many times before.

Jesse Jo Stark told us in our exclusive interview that she likes to approach music like writing poetry. In her very touching and incredibly well-written song “cry on me”, we get to hear her songwriting talent and can see how she evolved as an artist. This must be one of her strongest tracks yet.

3. MEYY and Joanna — Do it

MEYY is making big moves musically and personally. Recently, she moved to London to work on more new music and her upcoming EP is set to be released soon. For her first musical collaboration, she’s joined by France’s new R&B queen Joanna, who we introduced in our ‘On Our Radar‘ series at the beginning of the year.

MEYY and Joanna could count on the renowned producer FrancisGotHeat (Drake, Bryson Tiller, Big Sean) for their convincing new single “Do It”. The song itself has different layers and has many sonical elements to explore. We suggest you grab your headphones and put this on repeat.

4. GR8SCOTT — Won’t Be Drinking

The Copenhagen-based newcomer GR8SCOTT will immediately cheer you up with his good vibes. The 19-year-old artist does everything himself: from writing to recording and producing. His talent is undeniable, and his fuzzy alternative-pop is exactly what Gen-Z loves about music.

You don’t need to be wasted on a party to have a good time. That’s exactly what GR8SCOTT wants to tell you on his debut single “Won’t Be Drinking”. With some nostalgic elements and just a lot of good vibes, this song has all the potential to become his first big hit.

5. Pyra — hole heart

Are you already familiar with the genre dystopian pop? Singer and visual artist Pyra is the perfect introduction to this genre as she gives pop music a whole new twist. Determined to change the world, she signed at Warner Music and continues to release new music alongside mesmerizing visuals.

Her new single “hole heart” delivers the bleak message about the destructive nature of humanity, which she translated into an incredible music video. Musically, this song comes from her soul and has an unforgettable fragility to it that stands out because of the powerful production.

6. Tove Styrke — Start Walking

The Swedish pop chameleon Tove Styrke is a household name when it comes to Scandinavian pop, even when she has been quiet for almost three years. This year marks her big return, as her comeback single “Mood Swings” was released right before the summer.

If you already liked “Mood Swings”, we’re certain that you’ll enjoy “Start Walking” even more. Co-written by the songwriters of a.o. Dua Lipa, Anne-Marie, and Shawn Mendes, this song is coming close to pop perfection with its super infectious chorus. Tove Styrke really knows how to write a bop.

7. Kami Kehoe — LOVESICK

At the age of 18, Kami Kehoe already knows pretty well what she wants to do or make. The Las Vegas-based singer fuses old and new soul and wants to bring new sounds and perspectives to the world with her take on R&B alt-pop. Her first offering is already very promising.

“LOVESICK” is a joyful and playful song but foremost wants to empower people to leave a toxic relationship if it hurts them. With different twists and a super pleasant voice, there’s no way you won’t like this song.

8. Tama Gucci — Challenge

What have Christine & The Queens, Caroline Polachek, and Grimes in common? They’re all incredible musicians but also share a love for the American artist Tama Gucci. In November, he’ll be releasing his new EP Almost Blue, and he’ll definitely conquer dance floors all over the world with that project.

“Challenge” is an anthem that reminds us of New York’s queer underground scene with its eclectic sounds and raw lyrics. Even when the piano adds something dreamy, there’ is a captivating energy about the song.

9. ZULA & glue70  Let’s Go Out

The upcoming EP of ZULA & glue70 was born of experimental experiences and was forged in the small hours following big nights. The pair has already attracted the attention of Arlo Parks and BBC Radio 1, which indicates that this isn’t the last time we’ll hear from them.

“Let’s Go Out” is a slow rhythmic floor filler that unites ZULA’s sugar-sweet vocals and glue70’s molten beats. The relaxing atmosphere created by the song is the ideal soundtrack for a sunny autumn day and radiates an effortless elegance.

10. Niko B — It’s All Gone

Niko B’s smash hit “Who’s That? What’s That?” belongs to British pop culture and even led to the New York Times dedicating a piece to Britain’s next phenomenon. Having had an amazing run of festival shows, including slots on Reading & Leeds, he’s ready to take it to the next level.

The sound that made him so loved, remains on “It’s All Gone” and sounds even more polished. The sarcasm in his lyrics and his very unique flow really show that there’s no rapper in the game like Niko B. He isn’t taking life too seriously and charms with his straightforwarded music.
